RUNE for Macintosh February 18, 2003 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought RUNE about two weeks ago (04/02/03) and unfortunately completed it without spending all those typical late night hours. Despite this, it was very enjoyable. The game play was good, although it could have been made harder 'during' the game, although in fairness, to the end it did get very hard battling Loki's Children of the Dark and the final 'Puzzle' (which I'll keep to myself) is hard beyond belief *smile*! It was also quite nice to stop and look at your surroundings as the 3D environments are excellently created. All in all, I would recommend RUNE to anyone who wants a break from the usual run-of-the-mill RPG game. I haven't played the multi-player option to any great extent, but except from the obvious there isn't that much of a difference than Unreal Tournament. Hopes this helps Retrokid001
Great game, if a bit brutal January 7, 2001 4 out of 7 found this review helpful
I wouldn't say this game was appropriate for 15+, although it of course depends on the person playing it. If he is mature enough I see no problem either. The multiplayer option is great, and once you have a decent idea how to play, it can be very funny. The single player levels are excellentely designed, some great ideas, and you have to think at least a little bit most of the time- and by that I don't mean thinking "HOW do I get out of this labyrinth", like in many 3D games, especially the Tomb Raider series. The story isn't all that great, they could have worked on that some more, but it still has the one or the other nice twist. The levels belonging together mostly also gives a very nice effect. The only thing I dislike about it is that iss goes a bit too much in the brutal direction. I think being able to wield an enemie's limb is a negative thng, not a positive. The control could be a little more complex as well, but it suffices and goes for great fun.The graphics, thanks to the Unreal engine are really great, although changing from level to level.
