You just gotta try this game, pray to the gods you dont like it.
I quit playing this game and took up real life just over 4 months ago, life is better now that I am free.
I've racked up 4000 hours play time over the past 1.5 years, that's 166 days, nearly 6 months constant play time... I obviously totally mastered the game, made hundreds of friends, yes friends, (they might be online but I still know, respect and talk to them like I would any other friend). Because of this game I lost my families respect, my girlfriend and did much worse in my GCSE's.
In a sense I do not regret buying it, but life is better without... believe me.
I don't class myself as a gamer or a geek but yet this game destroyed me. Don't be fooled, this game is near impossible to play casually. You play this, you must accept there is a chance you will loose everything.
Saying all that, you may find you don't like it, or that you can play it casually, but WoW hit the spot for me (non sexually XD ofc.)

Do not get this game,
I am 13 years old and I was lured into getting this game by my friends. At the time it seemed great and I could get off it. But after a week of solid gaming it all became clear. I have realized that there are only two outcomes for you if you get this game:- 1) You get so addicted to this game that you can't bear to get off it and will pay the gaming fees even if you can't afford it and it will turn you into a selfish person with no time for others
2) You will quickly get bored off it and it will have been a huge waste of time and money.
As far as I can see outcome number 1 is more likely as there is always one more place to visit, one more quest to complete or one more thing to kill.
Even though obscene language is banned on the message chat the whole mood of the game is very selfish and cruel. It can turn you into a nasty person sub-consciously as the whole aim of the game boils down to kill as many things as you can.
So all in All DO NOT GET THIS GAME
p.s if you are stupid enough to get the game after this sincere warning note that don't buy a used copy off the game as the pass key will be taken and you will have to spend more money on another copy.

Having been pestered by my brother for months on end, I finally caved in and returned to WoW.
I say 'returned' because it wasn't the first time I played WoW. Indeed this is the 3rd time around, having reached level 30ish on the previous occasions, so I'm far from new to the game.
Now, I don't know what to make of this MMORPG. It's hard to see where the appeal lies: a continuous cycle of fighting, levelling up, upgrading, and not much else besides. True, there's an all-manner of professions and distractions, but not as much as you may think, and it all ultimately comes back to that core cycle of fight-level-upgrade. And yet I always come back to it for more.
Basically, WoW isn't fun - it's addictive. There is a difference, and WoW is certainly more the latter. It quickly becomes a case of just-doing-one-more-thing-then-I'll-definitely-log-off, doing quests not because it's fun to do so, but because you're compelled to do so, feeding on that desire everyone inherently has to get just that little bit better. Pretty soon the game takes on a sinister form, eating hours of your life away as you drag yourself through a virtual landscape, dolling yourself up in the gear with the biggest numbers, never quite being able to shake that all-too-true voice at the back of your head that nags that you're wasting your time.
But! It's not a bad game at heart. In small doses, perhaps an hour at a time, it can be fun, especially if you know someone who plays too who you can socialise with in-game. The landscapes are beautiful, always begging to be explored (exploration is one of the more satifying elements of the game).
It's when you sit down to six-hour-long sessions when it becomes an obsession, something resembling a job. And all for what?
As I said, my brother convinced me to return to WoW; he has a level 70 character, and I've watched him play. What he does now is practically the same as what you do when you start off: from killing wolves in a quaint forest to vanquishing house-sized demons in another dimension, it's essentially the same premise. Endless months of doing something repetitive is something you'd do only:
a) if you knew you'd get something good at the end (which you don't), or
b) if you're addicted.
If you have even a mildly addictive personality, steer clear of this. It eats into your life, an addiction that you think is fun, and gives nothing back for it. If, however, you can limit how much you play, you'll find a dazzling world awaits you. Just be careful.

Let me start out by saying the in fairness to Blizzard they have got this game to perfection. The history and mythology of the Warcraft series has been captured well and the choice of class/race is excellent. As for the game itself it is both involving and accessible making it a MMORPG that is not too intimidating to start.
I would say however that it is probably best to start this if you already know someone that plays it as it is far more fun to play the game with friends. That way they can also help you along whilst you learn the game.
Well recommended but beware, this could very well take up a LOT of your time so ensure you set time limits for playing.

Im a female player mid 40's, (level 70) and only started playing wow as i loved the graphics, its totally addictive, sometimes requiring 4 or 5 hours non stop play, so parents with kids doing their exams or needing to do homework beware before you buy them this game. But for us older players with no restrictions, its an excellent game, its not all about fighting, there are plenty of things to do. Its excellent for socializing, I have made lots of friends around europe via this game. Its also a great game for couples if there are 2 pc's in the house, that way, your both too busy to make the tea ;). For the female player like myself who has never tried anything like this before, try it, dont give up if the controls take a while, its well worth it in the end. Both me and my husband play it, along with friends, nephews and nieces, it really is a game open to all. If you live alone then even more reason to buy this game, there's loads of people out there to make friends with. Cant recommend it highly enough.
