Excellent Introduction November 19, 2007 PRS Low (UK) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
My six year old taught himself to play using this program, largely without adult help. The tutorials are well presented and useful and the graphics sufficiently varied to hold a child's attention. As the other reviewer notes, the commentary is written, not spoken, which for smaller children is not ideal, but for a child able to read moderately well, this provides an additional benefit, as the language used is lively and stimulating, rewarding any effort made. An excellent first program.
Fun and strategy for all ages October 28, 2005 28 out of 28 found this review helpful
Every PC chess game includes play and tutorial modes, but Majestic Chess offers something different: a Chess Adventure. The Adventure mode is an expedition through 8 medieval lands dotted with castles and populated by queens, knights, trolls and ogres. Each level proposes 3 types of interwoven activies: instruction regarding a particular strategy, puzzles to test the strategy, and short game sessions to put this particular strategy into practice. The player is awarded gold, gems, and pieces for his army for the successful completion of each challenge. The story line is simple, but entertaining. The graphics are basic, but effective. Play is accompanied by soft music to reduce game stress. The only drawback is that the story line is written, not spoken, and therefore requires parental assistance for young readers. My 7-year old son is obsessed by the game. The ugly truth is that I secretly play it myself after he goes to bed!
