5 out of 5 stars You'd be hard pressed to find a film this scary.   August 26, 2006

I had heard from friends that this series was a scary one, but i was entirely unprepared for the reality of it. What makes it so frightening is not what you DO see, but what you DONT. Auditory, rather than visual horror is used fantastically. Mechanical clanking, footsteps in the distance which grow steadily louder, and that never-ending crackle of white noise - all add up to a spine-chilling experience.
Furthermore, the power of this series is boosted by its incredible storylines. Characters are believable, and plots are wholesome. However, the spookiness is maintained by the fact that you're never offered a complete explanation for why Silent Hill is like it is. The series leaves a lot to the imagination and I love this in a game/film.
My only complaint is that the series appears to go somewhat downhill as it progresses - 'Silent Hill 2'is utterly flawless; 'Silent Hill 3'is good but not as good; and 'Silent Hill 4: The Room'is somewhat of a dissapointment after experiencing the other two. So, my advice would be to play them from last to first, and thus you wont be blinded by the incredible quality of Silent Hill 2.

4 out of 5 stars Silent Hill, the Compilation?   July 18, 2006

Ah, Silent Hill. What a town one would certainly not like to be in. The games, however, are something you'd certainly like to play if you have a taste for horror and emotional tales. Although the third and fourth Silent Hill display a fright of thinning in the series, the second one is the one you should be aiming to play above all else. Now, I'm not saying that the second one is better than the first (which they brutally didn't include!), but it bloody well comes close. The third one has good voice acting work and a nice story which continues on from the first, but the fourth one isn't exactly the best. Apparantly, Silent Hill 4 was going to be an entirely different game at the start of development, but Konami didn't want to risk another horror brand name with the Silent Hill series, that is probably why it differs so much from the previous games. That and it doesn't really have much soul to it, if you know what I mean.
I don't want to offend anyone giving this only four stars, and I sincerely wouldn't want to put any buyers off, as they are great games. And they save space, of course..
It just recieves four stars from me because it seems like a money making scheme, perhaps, and they didn't include Silent Hill One, which I mentioned before.
So, if you really do like horror games or want a good tear jerker (Silent Hill 2.), then why not?
The music, atmosphere and graphics don't let down, I feel!

5 out of 5 stars The Silent muck up   June 10, 2006

First i rated the games 1 star for fun, purely because they are not. They are Fantastic games and im a huge fan havign played the very first etc etc, but they aint fun, they are an exploration into a intriguing sinister world, basically you want to know how sick they'll get, and they get pretty sick. If you want fun, go play a sonic, if you want an experience play these. The package ? Well one ultimate muckup is how they didnt include the first silent hill. That is the sole reason im not buying this collection, i came close, but without the original their is little point, and buying the original could cost you twice the price of buying these 3. Also like a previous reviewer has already stated, this is basically for the masses wanting to play them after seeing the film, you cant blame marketing, but they could have made a bit more effort.

If you plan to buy this collection, make sure you buy the FIRST Silent Hill too.

Especially if you've only seen the movie and not even realized there were GAMES before it.
Off you go, buy em all.

1 out of 5 stars Released for the ignorants pouring out of the cinema barely knowing the game...   May 8, 2006

What kind of collection, DOESN'T EVEN HAVE 1!?

1 is a most difficult game to find in as well, I have NO idea what konami was thinking, I guess if you are of the ignorant amount who've just come from the cinema thinking it was the best film ever, yea it'd suit you, but don't forget the FOUNDATION this amazing game series came from, fly to ebay now and get it or get it off of the amazon market place used.
Everyone else it'll probably save you space on your shelf if you flog off the other copies and think like that, otherwise I find it obvious this is the for masses who don't even know the dreadful film's true origin. It's a shame but I guess it'll get konami money for better projects.

I've lost my faith in any better projects now more people are appearing to want to play it, it'll get watered down for the masses and all kinds of crap...

In either case, the first 2 perhaps even 3 and possibly 4 silent hills ARE amazing pieces of work, they will make you think of the world in a WHOLE new perspective and will find it's way to one of your worse nightmares one way or another.
