If only it had gamecube support... April 10, 2008 Mr. N. Wilson (London, England) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
So I was around a friends house and I saw he had one of these snazzy controllers and I had had a bad experience with the unofficial wii gamecube controller clones (the cables are *really* short*...) so I thought I'd get one of these babies. So I've just received my order and fired up my copy of Resident Evil 1 ready for some thrills and spills and to my absolute dismay it does not work with Gamecube games. Now this I hardly believe is a technical problem I think Nintendo engineered it NOT to work because you'd get all the great cheap gamecube games and play them and not as many Wii games. Thankfully I've got a few controllers ordered off of Ebay so it's not a total wash out but I am really disappointed that this doesn't work. The reason it hasn't got a 1 star review is because you can use it with Wii Arcade (at least I'm hoping!) As for the control it does all the necessary things you need it to, it's pretty much a generic controller. Has some random button in the middle of the controller which if you're playing any fast paced arcade game you'd find difficult to push. Definitely would of preferred "handles" like the gamecube/xbox/playstation have as going back to a mega-drive style controller just makes you realise what a great addition the handles were. So overall yeah it's an okay product, not ground breaking and Nintendo's short sighted greediness overshadows any great addition to my collection it could be.
Good, but the Wavebird is better. February 25, 2008 Mr. G. Moores (Merseyside) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
It's a good pad, but the analogue sticks are a little too close together. Also, it doesn't work with Gamecube games, and isn't as comfortable as the Wavebird either. Now don't get me wrong, it is NOT uncomfortable, just not as comfortable. Buy a Wavebird if you can, but if you can't get one of these then.
Its close, but no cigar February 17, 2008 Richard (Surrey) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
Ok, first of all, it is a great idea to get the classic controller, as it does add to the enjoyment of the Wii, It includes all the "Wii Buttons" and it even works with the Wii Menu (so you can use analog sticks instead of the wii mote if you like) But I do however find the controller uncomfortable. It is basically a SNES controller with analog sticks! The thing I find annoying about it, is the wire comes to the bottom. this wire annoys me when I am playing, I would prefer it come from the top. However saying that, the buttons are easy to use, and it does work better then the GameCube controller, but it can feel like it is going to slip out of your hands, it could do with better grip (like the original GameCube controller), but some could say that the layout makes it feel more like the original SNES games, and stuff. This maybe great, but if you are looking at downloading other titles, like the N64 games, where the second stick becomes "C" (up,down, left and right) it can become pretty annoying, especailly for some games. Like Mario Kart, ok the C buttons only really controlled camera angles and stuff. The great thing about the buttons was that you could still hold down the A button, then change camera angles etc... using another finger, this one, see's you letting go of the A button, to use the "C" button. That aside though, it is still one of the best things to get for your Wii, but I must say that ONLY buy this controller if you plan to play a LOT of Virtual Console games, although it can be used for other games aswell (Mortal Kombat, NiGHTS etc...) I would only really still get it, if you know you will use it a lot!
Very Useful For VC Games September 16, 2007 Mr. J. P. Davies (Melton Mowbray, UK) 2 out of 5 found this review helpful
This is a great little controller that does what its made to do, however, you might be better of simply useing an old gamecube controller and save your self some money
Wii Classic Controller July 19, 2007 Ste Star 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
Essential for playing games downloaded from the Virtual Console, this controller will work for every game downloaded, and the controller can also be used for compatible games for the Wii. The controller is wireless and plugs in to the remote like the nunchuck does. It handles well; the controller fits comfortably in the hands and has a layout familiar to past Nintendo console controllers. Overall a good purchase, but as mentioned below if you're looking to download games such as Mario Kart 64 etc, two or more of these are advisable.
