ok !! August 6, 2008 Mrs. Victoria L. Fairey (Devon UK) ok game far too much reading of conversations which became quite irritating at times. enjoyable looking around he hotel finding clues and people to talk to, i wish there had been more clue finding rather than talking to people to piece the story together. i played it over a space of 2 wks and completed it, and was glad to tbh!! couldnt play it again wouldnt want to face another game where there is this amount of reading....i felt like i was reading a book more than playing a game...and fell asleep playing it at times.the graphis are in black and white just like the picture on front of box and not much other colour througout which became quite boring too. because there was so much reading of conversations it ave it away too much as to what to do next u didnt have to think much!!
A Serious Adventure Game July 10, 2008 Snowy3 (UK) I like this game. I havent finished it yet but felt i wanted to review. It's very much a serious adventure so perhaps kids wouldnt find it that 'fun'. The graphics are unique and i really liked the way the people are animated. It has a deep storyline that sucks you in and some logical puzzles. Its a nice break from colourful Mario type games. There arent many good adventure games around on the DS so id recommend this one. Should keep you occupied for a while!
THE BEST DS GAME EVER June 19, 2008 Shivs (London) I WOULD HONESTLY RATE THIS AS ONE IF THE BEST NINTENDO DS GAMES EVER - ITS A LONG GAME PLAY WHICH IS GOOD - THE GRAPHICS IS GOOD - THE STORY IS GOOD - THE MINI GAMES IS GOOD THE ONLY BAD THING WAS THAT I COMPLETLED IT! AND NOW HAVE NOTHING GOOD TO PLAY.
Not really a game... June 12, 2008 S. P. Long (Cambridge) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought Hotel Dusk for my DS after seeing the TV adverts for it a few months ago, and completed it last night. On the whole, I have to say that I am fairly disappointed by it. The main problem is that it is more of a (slightly) interactive story than a game - the amount of user interaction is extremely limited. There are a few trivial mini-games, but the vast majority of the game is taken up by moving your character round the hotel and reading scripted conversations with the other characters. Occasionally you will get the opportunity to choose between a couple of options as your next words in a conversation, but that really is the extent of the influence you have over events. Also, the gameplay is completely linear - there are things you need to do involving picking up items or using them, but these can only be done at the time that they are scripted in the story - attempting to do something at a time the game does not expect is simply rejected as not possible. This is extremely poor game design, as it means that you then don't think of doing the same thing later on when it is allowed. The conversations are at a fixed speed, and it can be quite tedious waiting for each character to finish speaking before you can move on to the next screen. I think I ended up spending 15 hours in total playing the game, and I'd estimate that could have been halved if it had been possible to speed up conversations. On the plus side, the music and graphics create a nice sense of atmosphere, and some of the minigames are quite creative in their use of the interface elements on the DS. Also, the plot is at least vaguely interesting - but to be honest, presenting it in this format offers very little over and above simply presenting it as a novel, which would at least allow you to read it at your own pace. For a fan of PC adventure games, either of the old-fashioned text variety or the Myst-type graphic adventures, this is really not a worthwhile purchase. It's more of a novel for people who need to be tricked into reading...
LOVED it June 4, 2008 Ayumi I bought this a couple of weeks ago and completed it in about 4 days. Its not a short game but i got sooo addicted to it. I love point and click games and this just sucked me in straight away. I found the story really interesting. Although i wouldnt reccomend it if you dont like games which have quite a bit of dialogue, as this game does. But overall i would definitely give it 5 stars.
