Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
The SIXAXIS Wireless Controller for PLAYSTATION 3 employs a high-precision, motion sensitive, six axis system, which detects natural hand movements for intuitive real-time interactive play. With the adoption of Bluetooth wireless technology, the SIXAXIS Wireless Controller allows up to 7 players to play at the same time, without attaching any other external devices. In addition, by simply inserting a USB cable into the Wireless Controller (from the PLAYSTATION 3), users can seamlessly switch from wireless to wired connection and automatically charge its battery while the Wireless Controller is in use. When fully charged, the Wireless Controller's battery life lasts up to 30 hours before recharging is necessary.

2 out of 5 stars Duel Shock released soon   April 21, 2008

This control pad will soon be redundant and soon Sony will stop making them, if they havent already.

The pad feels light and flimsy. The controller does it job like every other playstation pad before it which isnt a bad thing. Yes its more refined but thats to be expected from the next gen.

The motion technology is also quite nice but i've recently imported a duel shock pad...
it doesnt feel light, has a nice weight to it and i'm just now remembering just how immersive rumble is.

An thats enough of a reason to wait till duel shock's released.

3 out of 5 stars you can see right through it   April 7, 2008

there is two things wrong

1) it does not rumble

2) if you buy one serperatly from the PS3 and you put in front of the light you can see right through it

apart from that everything else is good

2 out of 5 stars Sticky X button   March 31, 2008

I bought my PS3 system about a year ago, I already have 2 Six-Axis controllers with sticking X buttons Grrrrr!! Good controller but made the quality of a Kinder Egg Toy inside. Yeah, i decided to take one apart to see what was going on inside!! I hope the system itself is more durable.

5 out of 5 stars Yet another triumph for Sony   March 30, 2008

Following on from the classic design used in previous Playstation controllers, the new Sixaxis version is a slick upgrade and i'm so glad they didn't completely overhaul the design. The original controllers had very little wrong with them and the designers have been wise in only making a few minor changes. Everything is slick, modern and the wireless just makes things so much easier, eliminating the vast tangle of wires around your Playstation.

Everything is streamlined, from the new materials used to the new L2 and R2 buttons. Yes, rumble is gone but after a while of playing you barely notice the difference and the wireless capabilities more than make up for it. Thankfully, there's no messing around with batteries involved like the power-drainging Wii controllers and the Sixaxis can be quickly recharged with the USB cable supplied with the PS3. I've found the battery lasts a fair while too.

While it seems online seems to be becoming the new dominant force for the PS3's multiplayer functions, a few games out at the moment provide split screen capabilities and having more than one controller makes for great fun playing against friends and family.

4 out of 5 stars Like it was bolted on   March 27, 2008

I dont like digging into things like controllers but in this case it is different.

the ps1 and ps2 controllers were good hard reliable pieces of kit and i really rated them as such but the sixaxis is different. I dont enjoy it, it is like it wants to fight what i want to (including smashing it).

the cause is the sixaxis - it still feels bolted on, that it was not meant to be in it in the first place
