Amazon.co.uk Review
The greatest battle of the new football season is not between any real world club but between the virtual giants of FIFA and Pro Evolution Soccer. Konami's game has always been the favourite but last year FIFA closed the gap to such a degree that the title race has never been closer. This year's FIFA uses a completely new game engine, for the first time built specifically for the next gen consoles. But improved graphics and animation are only the half of it, with just as much focus going on the artificial intelligence thanks to the new "35 point decision engine". What this basically means is that every player on the pitch is fully aware of those around him and constantly thinking about tactics and position when not under your control. Other changes include better modelled physics for taking a shot on goal, which take into account everything from air pressure to the angle of your foot. You're also able to create your own special moves to replicate every possible trick from real life. There are also new game modes including Be A Pro which challenges you to play the role of a single player through a whole season or career. On top of this there are revamped online leagues to play a virtual season in the Premier League, Bundesliga, French League or Mexican 1st Division against real opponents. With 620 licensed teams, 30 offline leagues and 15,000 players as well FIFA might just have made enough new signings this year to put it over the top. Harrison Dent

Very good but far from perfect May 3, 2008 andy (barracuda69) I've been playing this game for about a week now and its really challenging and enjoyable. The graphics are awesome and the sounds is great. Excellent commentary by Martin Tyler and Andy Gray of Sky Sports. I think the speed of the game is actually fairly realistic. And the whole thing is really addictive and exciting. Definitely the best football game around at the moment. The nagging problems that i find with this game are the control issues. The response times are way too slow. When you tackle and win the ball and need to sprint at the defence, sometimes you need to change direction immediately when attempting to go round a couple of defenders. But the delayed player response means that you have to wait up to a second from when you set the angle on the stick to seeing the player respond on the screen. BAD BAD BAD and this is totally unrealistic and annoying. Also, especially when trying to weave your way towards the opponents penalty area, the response time to deliver the perfect through ball is unbelievably slow. The amount of times i've hit the through-ball button while my target player is well on side only to see him run well off side by the time my player releases the ball has cost me hundreds of important goal scoring opportunities. And it takes a lot of fun and realism out of the game. It means that you have to learn to respond before its actually time to respond. Also, the shooting control can be much improved as well. If they iron these annoying bugs out, i think this game will be near perfect. I'd like to see a way to save classic goals on the hard drive too :)
Good, not great. April 21, 2008 Richard Self Pro 6 forced me to buy this game. Having played the demo of pro 2008 and fifa 8 I decided to give fifa a go. I needed a new footie game and thought pro 2008 wasn't different enough from the last one and that pro 6 wasn't that good. So is fifa any good? Well yes, graphically superior to pro, lisenced teams, excellent sound track, easy to navigate menu, solid online play and loads of games modes. The gameplay itself is a totally different kettle of fish to pro's arcade style of play. This really does feel like a simulation when you first start, with the emphasis on a slow methodical approach in order to create your chances. At first it is very frustrating, with chances few and far between, but as with any game once you've worked out what the AI is going to do it becomes a lot easier. Bad points ? Well the trick system is very difficult to actually use effectively and therefore a bit pointless. The AI players on your team are running strictly on rails, so when you try to take control of them they can sometimes turn the wrong way, which is very frustrating, especially in online matches, the keeper is also rather useless at coming off his line when you tell him. Overall this is a solid football game, not brilliant as some would have you believe, nor shocking either. Is it better than pro? I can't really answer that, the 2008 demo wasn't different enough from the pro 6 version for me to want to buy it. I've usually gone for pro in the past but have become increasingly frustrated with how the series has got worse as they've gone on. So fifa 08 wins this round for me, it's different from the last version of pro I played, not better or worse.
Good April 2, 2008 G. Goode (edinburgh , scotland) Its a realy good game a lot better than FIfa 06 and 07 but the thing tht makes me lose it a star is that u cant create a payer and make him full at everything and on be a pro u can only play online or offline but they are like kick off games I think be a pro would be amazing if EA kinda made it like manager mode like your player gets transferd to other clubs n stuff lik tht. Over all this is an amazing game and any1 thinking of buying it should
Good but RIDDLED with problems! March 21, 2008 Mr. Christopher A. J. Brown (Scotland) Had this game since Christmas and have played it quite extensivley. Completed afew season on semi-pro and found the game overall to be very very good. Multi player is also great fun. Overall a great game. HOWEVER, decided to step up to Proffessional mode as i was winning everything...things changed!! Your players become utterly stupid and unable to remember how to play football. The other teams, in changing the difficulty level up one level, become a team of Ronaldinho's compared to the slow, non-responive players on your team. And this is not due to me being bad at the game. Your players cannot control the ball, your goalkeeper is useless and players not being controlled by yourself, their AI is useless. Against slighlty better teams it is impossible to score unless you are clear one on one with the goalkeeper and even then it is still hard to beat him. And as for free kicks...what is the point in winning one....it takes weeks to even get close to geting a free kick over the wall and even on target and a free kick from anywhere not in goal scoring distance is a waste as its impossible to pick anyone out...compared to the super skills of all AI teams, where if you concede a free kick about 10 yards out from the edge of your box...it will either curl straight in or hit the post...EVERY TIME! I have now become stupidly frustrated with this game! EA really need to work the kinks out of this for the next installment. Im a FIFA fan over ProEvo anyday but far too many niggling little things to take the enjoyment out when you become good at the game
Good solid football game better than pro evo March 14, 2008 Sven the ben i have had this game since Christmas and it is great i have also played the pro evo game and it is not nearly as good so if you want a football game that you can play time and time again get Fifa 08
