A worthy collection of Metal Slug games July 23, 2008 Filipe Messias (PT) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
One of the arcade's most well-known and fun sidescrolling action series ever, from the first game up to the 6! The aim of Metal Slug gameplay is simple: you control a hero in a sidescrolling, cartoonish version of war-thorn environments, against hordes of enemies. You'll fight these on foot while collecting powerups and freeing some prisioners of war by the way, and you can at times jump into the famous METAL SLUG tank (and on some games, other vehicles as well) and wreak havok on the enemy. And then there's some great boss battles against varied foes. If you're into simple but addictive arcade gameplay, you just NEED to get this anthology ASAP. 'In 1990 an arcade legend was born with the release of METAL SLUG: Super Vehicle 001 on the NEO-GEO MVS arcade system. The military themed side-scrolling platform game known for its sense of humor and hilarious cartoon style, mixed with extremely fluid hand-drawn animation and fast-paced two player action proved popular to a decidedly wide audience.[...]' - from the Metal Slug Anthology PS2 manual. The games are have 2D graphics (for the time they were made, but hold well still today, 10 years on!), with flashy animations and sounds, and its surely a great time spent, especially with friends. The difficulty is just right because you'll have to practice if you want to end each game without losing credits (and if you do, its game over)... unless you choose the options of unlimited credits - this way, anyone can eventually cut through the whole games, but its still great fun. This anthology is a great, single DVD, value because it contains the games: -Metal Slug -Metal Slug 2 -Metal Slug X (a special, improved version of Metal Slug 2) -Metal Slug 3 -Metal Slug 4 -Metal Slug 5 -Metal Slug 6 So, in a handy single package you get 7 (seven!) full Metal Slug, each a sure action filled game with no need of coins! On the PS2, there's been some releases of Metal Slug over the years (just like on other consoles), and if you already have most of those, you might ponder on getting this, but its up to you if you have any Metal Slug missing from your collection (because they are worth it!). If, on the other hand, you didn't those when they were released and/or are a late PS2 buyer, by all means, get this collection. One of the best anthologies to ever been assembled in one DVD. Recommended to Metal Slug fans (with or without Metal Slug games already), and generally to anyone who enjoys arcade action at its side-scrolling best!
One of the best old school games packages ever!!! August 28, 2007 A real gone Kid (London, UK) 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
This game was originally a Neo-Geo favourite and if you don't know what a Neo-Geo is then think of the Neo-Geo as the PS3 of its day (20 years ago). The Neo-Geo was really an arcade quality home entertainment system that had no equal (Sega Master systems, SNES, Megadrive were all out of its league) but it was just too expensive and was the machine you read about rather than played. Anyway, Metal Slug is one of the best platform shoot-em-ups that plays along the lines of Ghosts N Ghouls. This game is fab and you get all the power ups, vehicles to jump into etc with cartoon graphics and addictive game play. It is a fine game with all of the versions on one disc and is great value for money. A must for all Gamers.
