A PS3 Masterclass!!! July 12, 2008 Jon (U.K.) It is only once you have completed this game, you release the tremendous adventure you have ventured on for the last 11 hours. Worth it. HELL YES!!! It may be short, but every minute you spend on the game is amazing. Well done Naughty Dog.
An excellent reason to buy a PS3 July 8, 2008 The Milkman (UK) I actually think that this is the best non-sequel game of this generation so far. Its that good. Its inspired by the likes of Tomb Raider, Prince of Persia and Gears of War. Mostly however, it takes its inspiration from the Indiana Jones movies. It has the non stop action, cheesy script, and spectacular set pieces of Speilbergs classics. In fact, if it had the Indiana Jones license, it would probably be lauded as one of the greatest games of all time and sold about 4 times as much. Basically you are a adventurer on a mission to find out what happened to your distant relative, Sir Francis Drake. The story takes you on a ride between romance, jealousy, betrayal, gang warfare and cowardice. Not to mention the truly bizarre twist near the end. Many people criticise the end of the game, but to be honest it works in my opinion. It makes the ending into a crescendo rather than a whimper and makes the game feel more dramatic and film like. once you've played it, you'll know what I mean. As far as the game goes the controls are first rate, especially the combat system. You're always searching for bullets which is excellent and makes it feel more a quest for survival as opposed to you being a one man killing machine. The script and the fantastic voice acting (easily the best ever in a videogame, or at least as good as Psyconauts) really make you aware of the main characters mortality which is quite rare for a videogame, and you do feel for him and want him to get safely to the end. All in all this is a very good reason to own a Ps3 and is probably the best exclusive game on any system at the moment, with the only exception possibly being Gears of War.
Best PS3 game so far!!!! July 1, 2008 Mr. G. Charlesworth Just finished this game and had a to write of review of it. The more people I can get to give this game a go the better off they'll be!!!. First of all I must say that after having a PS3 for over a year now it is somewhat of a shame that it has taken so long for some quality games to be produced for it. Uncharted is one of those games. When you first start the game the first thing I noticed were the stunning visuals. The graphics are brilliant and finally show off the power of the PS3. As the first cut scene ended at the beginning of the game the action starts with an it was incredibly easy to pick up the controls for this game (basically if you're a fan of the Tomb Raider games this should be easy to pick up). Getting used to the shooting system of hiding behind cover and popping out to fire you're weapons becomes natural after a short while (something you do a lot of in this game). Next thing to note is that if you are after a game with a good story this is it. The character of Drake is comparable to Indiana Jones as is the rest of the game and with its exotic locations and you're quest for an ancient treasure it makes for quite an engrossing experience. As the game progresses the plot takes a few twists and turns with some jet ski driving as well as having the bonus objectives of finding hidden treasures and unlocking bonus material for completing various tasks throughout the game. The only downside some people may find is that the game is relatively short-lived and I completed it in just over a week. But on the plus-side there is replay value in that if you don't unlock everything first time round ie find all hidden treasures you can start over once finished and complete what you haven't done. I have no problem myself with the games length because it is paced just right and made me want to play it again (although on a harder difficulty level, there are 4)! All in all highly recommended and ace action game.
Worth every penny June 24, 2008 Maria Riley-ward (Derby) I bought this game on eBay for 10 and boy was it 10 well spent. Admittedly the game is a little shorter than I'd expected but I've only played in Medium mode so far. If you're one of those people who likes to explore every nook and cranny then it'll take a hell of a lot longer to complete. The graphics are absolutely brilliant. The sea looks and moves just like it should, the shadows cast by the sun are amazing. Take a look at a puddle as you move past it. The audio is just as good. There's only one fault I found with it and that is you can't run while you're shooting which can be a pain as there are so many baddies around you at any one time. They can be pretty slow and thick at times though so that makes up for it. Drakes Fortune is Tomb Raider combined with a fast paced shoot 'em up and I'd recommend it to anyone. Well done NAUGHTY DOG!
WOW June 13, 2008 Mrs. J. C. Banner got this for Christmas (only just got round to writing an review) i have to say it is one of the best games i have ever played, so far it is the only game that i have completed more than once (three times in fact :P) and i still feel like i can play it again. the graphics even on my standard definition tv are outstanding, really a next gen game. i highly recommend this game, it is similar to tomb raider but not the same however been a life long fan of tomb raider i found the change to uncharted smooth. although the whole game is set in 'rooms' i.e. you cant leave the game area to explore, the room given is quite big however the jungle seems to create the effect that it is much bigger, this is because you can wonder in to the trees a bit which creates the illusion that there area is massive. very much anticipating uncharted 2 :)
