The Amazonian Curved Bow Click the bow for a larger viewFrom the fabled dark jungles of Amazonia, the female warriors of Gamburu are well known for their combat prowess with bronze-bladed short swords and curved bows. At the cost of many brave lives, Hyrkanian raiders brought home a handful of the unique Amazonian bows, now mostly found in the black markets of Aquilonia. The bow can be given to eight characters per account but cannot be equipped by any character without archery skills. You must learn these skills in order to use this bow. Rangers and Barbarians learn bow skills at level five, Tempests of Set and Bear Shaman learn bow skills at level 22, and the remaining eight classes do not currently have a way to learn how to use the bow. The Amazonian curved bow is designed to be a very effective weapon when you've left the tender care of Tortage and are making your way in the big world for the first time.

The european early access starts on the 17th. If you only hand out the pre order keys on the 16th, this leaves us with only 1 day to download a 10-13 gig client, which is impossible for most internet connections. I usually buy all my MMOs from amazon.co.uk, but if you don't change this I will be forced to pre order it somewhere else.
Beta Good but launch date moved to the 17th not 19th. May 6, 2008 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
The beta seems a good product and worth a purchase, I reviewed it to level 13 below. However the EU launch date has been moved forward to the 17th, thus the 16th is not enough time to download the 13 gig+ client for a preorder bonus, if this alters then fair enough.
Firstly this game has some performance issues but as its still the beta they have some time to polish the game off for release. The graphics are good and the more mature levels of storyline, gore and graphic content make this suitable for adults or older teens. The gameplay is what's important when it comes down to it and this game has several semi unique features.
1, Directional combat is a great addition and with some tweaking will send this MMO into a realm few have dared to go. Imagine fighting a monster, its friend joins in and you alter your attacks to hit both directions, you dodge left, put your shields to the right and then do a right sided combo. You actively block the monsters that's still close enough to attack, chop its head off with a finisher and jump back to avoid its friends counter attack. Ready to inflict the final blow, your about to do a double forward hit, when out from behind comes another player charging at you, so at the last minute you choose a swing to hit front and back instead!
2, Group pvp content, this really is going to be excellent. Keeps to siege, with archers firing off the walls and players using catapults to break down the doors. Then there are the towers and resource points outside of the main keeps to fight over. I've not experienced it yet during beta but I cross my fingers its well implemented, as it sounds a pvp'ers dream.
3, Quests with a bit of heart, you can respond much like a traditional RPG with insults or sympathy to the people issuing you quests, it's a nice touch which immerses you a bit further into the quest experience. The have people and cut scenes also help if you like your quest or conversely often find them a bit stale.
4, I've already mentioned fatalities, they are fun, throwing two swords into an opponent and striding over to pull them out. Frying your opponent, kicking and screaming with a blast of magic, turning his flesh to worms as he sinks to his knee's, smashing a downed opponent in the face with your boot, all good fun and in a days work when you execute a combo move and it turns into a critical hit to kill them. The weapon types you use and the combo all give way to different finishing moves!
5, A vast lore and world to explore, very rich as its drawing from a great author.
6, Many classes are very in your face compared to the relaxed, casual nature of other games. You can still play on PvE servers but you will need to think and act rather than just sit there mindless pushing a button. Enemies block certain directions and adjust that block when you hit them, you take advantage of this by the directional combat I mentioned above, then there's the active blocking and your own passive block to consider, then finally you move on to the standard MMO fare of what do I use first, DOT's, Knockdowns, buffs and debuffs etc.
7, FPS aiming for archers! This is optional as there is an autotarget mode but the aiming itself has a much greater degree of accuracy at range. Imagine hiding in a bush stealthed and watching your opponent from afar, just for the right time when he bends down to pick up that loot... Or climb that ladder or sit down and chat with a friend.
8, Technically this game does not yet make good enough use of the latest advanced processors, those with good graphics cards and plenty of ram will do much better than those with a quad core system and an average graphics card, though performance is improving gradually for all.
All in all the first 13 levels have been great fun, I can't wait to get to level 80 and do a FULL review but be warned there are a few niggling bugs in beta still to put up with and your mileage will vary.
pre order item! May 5, 2008 2 out of 16 found this review helpful
Ive been searching others stores for this game. Two of them offer the mamuth or the rhino. Amazon offers a bow that the classe im going to choose can't use? Im not happy with that.Im a regular Amazon customer, but if the offer remais the bow im not buying here. Hope you guys fix it soon.
