5 out of 5 stars Personally, I think it rocks   August 9, 2008
L. Richards (London, England)
This game is great, but I can understand why some people might not like it. For instance, it has a cheezy story, and you don't have any form of life/fatigue meter for you or your opponent.

Right. First of all, it's based on a MANGA! Come on! Am I the only person nerdy enough to think that makes the cheese cool? Second, allow me to put my fourteen years of real-life fighting experience into the review here. When exactly in a real boxing match would you expect your opponent's life/fatigue meter to pop up? You have to rely on your fighting instincts to sense when your opponent is ready to go down. Meters make boxing games childish and stupid.

Another big plus point to this game is that the fight mechanics are incredibly well thought out. You can smash hook after hook into your opponent's face without causing much damage, but if he walks onto so much as a jab, he'll get hurt. Again, just like real life. Think physics. If you've walked into a jab you have effectively head-butted a punch. Add the force of the head-butt to the force of the jab, and it will usually equal a knockout.

There is no training mode to this game. Instead, there is something no other boxing game has ever had: A LEARNING CURVE! You have to actually learn how to fight in order to do well in this game. It's the only boxing game where dodging and weaving actually helps. It's insanely hard and feels pointless until you get good. Then it gets awesome. As it's so realistic, this process only took me half an hour, but as I mentioned, I know how to box for real. The main reason this game is hard to play is because the fights are fast paced, and you really have to keep battling if you want to stand a chance. Just like real life.

It's a shame this game never got popular, because I'd go so far as to say it's the only really good boxing game I've ever played. Most boxing games are slow and unrealistic.

Let me sum up: this game has a crap story. It has insane, silly fights such as one confrontation with a bear in the woods. It has no training mode, but you do actually have to be good at virtua-fighting to play. It has no life/fatigue meters. It's fast paced and it's the only fight game I've ever played where the battles are furious enough to raise my adrenaline. As far as I'm concerned, this paragraph contains no bad points.

This is not a ground breaking game. It will not go into the annals of time for being epoch making in the computer industry. Yet it does have something that some bigger games tend to lack. Fun. okay i may not have given it a great mark, it has huge flaws, yet for a fun pick up and play game it copes really well. the controls are easy to explain and even a novice can give u a good fight. Many time with a friend u end up laughin or slappin ur mate. The one player may not be engrossing but again it is fun for a half an hour bash.
Ultimately it is an easy to play, enjoyable game for some light hearted fun.

1 out of 5 stars victoriuos boxing or is it knocked out in the first round   July 21, 2003

if you have played rocky you wont want to step near this title!
the gameplay is very slow and you cannot move around the ring much, the gameplay is also awsomely repetativeas there is only
around 9 moves which are the same for each player. however there are a few nice touches for example if you are battering the oppersition and they have got long hair and it is held up the hair will come down.the graphics are dated and this game was a sure waste of time. if you buy it half an hour into it you will be yawning!!!!!
in conclusion it is definately knocked out in the first round!
