Buy it! I can't put it down! Non-stop adrenalin, fantastic graphics and gameplay. I can never try real snowboarding now....I'm too good in the virtual world, the real thing would be a massive let-down :-)

Having played he two previous SSX games and hearing great things about this one, I was looking forward to getting my hands on it. have to say I was not disappointed.

When you first get to play the career mode you're dropped off at the bottom of the backcountry and it takes your breath away. The snow is beautiful, changing all the time depending upon the where you are on the mountain. In the back country it's fresh powder but in the race courses it's more compacted allowing faster speeds. The whole game is free roaming, you can choose to ride to each event or cheat by taking the osprey or cable car.

The music is excellent, using lesser know songs from well-known artists such as Placebo and Red Hot Chili Peppers. The DJ is good, giving you updates on how your character is doing and what your current rival is saying.

The freeride challenges are many and often very challenging and to complete them all and find all the money crystals would take months of constant playing. However, this isn't a bad thing, as it means you always have something to come back to do.

Overall, SSX3 is vastly superor in every way to it's predecessors, with beautiful scenery and excelent tricks. I would even say it's better than the most recent offering, SSX On Tour. Buy it now.

A beautiful game in every sense of the word. Detail on the courses and characters is immense. You are able to customize your clothes for each of the 10 playable characters by earning cash on the slopes. Plenty to do. You gotta explore three peaks of one mountain all containing a group of courses requiring you to race, pull off awesome stunts and minigame/challenges in order to finish the game.
Learning controls and such is quite advanced as you literally have to use every button on the controller at some point during a race. Switching between analogue sticks for turning and keeping balance to using the d-pad for spinning during tricks. Requires a lot of skill but when you get used to it, it comes naturally.
This game is filled with music and a virtual DJ keeping you entertained throughout the game.
To fully finish SSX 3 would take months and it is extremely difficult to unlock everything. Race against friends, show off tricks, even race online, SSX has a lot to offer.
Easily the greatest extreme sports game currently on the market!

5 out of 5 stars SSEXY!   September 9, 2004

Having played the first 2 SSX games on the Playstation 2, I can say that SSX 3 is a great improvement on what has gone before. New features include:

- One massive mountain, divided into 3 peaks, which you can explore freely in between events.
- Expanded Uber trick system, including rail tricks and monster tricks.
- Earn cash through finding secrets and winning events. Spend cash on rider stat's improvements, new gear to wear, music tracks and art.
- Greater variety of events, including big air and rival challenges.

SSX is a lot different to all the other snowboarding games out there such as Amped. SSX throws away realism and instead focuses on massive tricks, imaginative courses and high speed. I personally love the arcadey feel to the game and simplicity of controls, but if you are after a more serious game this may not be the one for you.

The parts I love the most are the new ability to explore the mountain at will and find hidden items/challenges. It's great to just cruise with no real goal and see what you can do. Also, I was very impressed by the amount of customisation you can do with the riders. There are hundreds of things to buy and wear, from new boots to skeleton heads.

My main complaint with this game is that you have to build up each rider separatley. If you unlock all the peaks with Kaori (the cutest rider!), you still have to do it all for the rest of the riders. This extends the gameplay, but makes it very repetitive. However, if you want to play a 2 player game with maxed out character stats, you must earn all those stats for each of the riders you will use. This took me about 12 hours for each rider!

Despite these flaws, this is still an excellent game that is fun for quick blasts or when you have your mates over. See you on the peak!
