Amazon.co.uk Review Iridion 3D is reminiscent of arcade shooters such as Galaga or Gradius, except that Iridion is done in over-the-shoulder third-person 3-D. The problem is that this perspective really, really hurts the gameplay. One can only wonder how much better Iridion 3D might have been had the developers chosen a more workable point of view. Your ship sometimes blocks your sight line as you shoot, and it's extremely difficult to accurately gauge distance and depth perception. Is that a small enemy that's close to your ship (maybe even about to collide with it), or is it a large one that's farther away? Are they shooting at me or are those "shots" actually distant ships? Are those enemies or part of the tunnel scenery? Another problem is the jerky control. If you're flying through a tunnel trying to kill the bad guys, you should be able to literally fly in circles. With the Game Boy Advance directional pad, squares are about all you can manage. At least the game is extremely pretty to look at. Iridion 3D boasts one of the best graphics engines available for the Game Boy Advance, and considering the competition, that's no idle compliment. Progressing through the stages and worlds one is bombarded with beautiful scenery almost as much as enemy fire. Yes, the game looks spectacular, and it will partially appease arcade shooter fans waiting for Game Boy Advance conversions of classics such as R-Type and the aforementioned coin-ops. It's just too important to see what you're doing in a game of this type to recommend the title to anyone but the most hard-core fans of the genre. --Andrew S Bub

Amazing sound and visuals!!!!!!!!! January 28, 2002 Harry (London) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I already got the amazing Gradius Advance and wanted another shoot em up to add to the collection. Fans of the genre should like this game. It plays a bit like Space Harrier (remember that?). Once you slap the cartridge in and turn on you immediately sense that you're in for something special. The graphics are truly AMAZING and the soundtracks are FABULOUS (and there's lots of them!). The developers have really seen the potential of the GBA and it shows in this game. Its a little tough going at first because of the 3D perspective you get with your ship progressing forwards - however, once you get the hang of it it's great entertainment. The landscapes are varied and colourful and the bosses at the end serve their purpose well. The only thing I didn't like about this game is that the power-ups are a bit lame - your weaponry increases with each power up but I can't say you notice much difference apart from changes in the bullets' colours! Also, the high scores are lost once you turn off the cartridge - so that kind of defeats the purpose of high scores! Having said that, the game 'does exactly what it says on the tin' - great shoot em up entertainment on the move.
Good blasting fun August 22, 2001 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
When i got Iridion i was really excited with the thought of loads of chaotic shooting. This is what I got, chaotic shooting, bright colours but however what I also got was a repetitve game that did the same thing every level. So overall a really good blaster that is just too repetitve to get full marks.
