Bloomin Good Fun - When You Win (anyway!!) February 25, 2004 Si. (Halifax, West Yorkshire United Kingdom) 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
As a watcher of the cartoon series, this was my first purchase when buying my GBA. The duelling itself doesn't disappoint but the overall gameplay between duels is boring and repetitive. The so-named passengers with their sometimes inane comments are particularly maddening and their is sometimes no way of avoiding clicking on them in order to move from one area to another within the city. That said the duelling system is excellent and the fact you can enter codes from the actual cards means you can build a pretty formidable deck in a short space of time. New cards are unlocked each time you win and free cards are given with the weekly magazine and believe me in the early duels you'll need them as the initial deck given is quite tame. Some of the duellists are embarrasingly bad and you actually feel sorry for beating up on them but what the heck it means you get better cards for battling the big boys. Joey is the hardest to beat but some of the ghouls have some pretty serious cards too. All in all, pretty darn good, glad i bought it..and can't wait for the next version, hopefully it'll have a little more too it that just duelling though.
Turn based luck/strategy card game September 19, 2003 Luke Wheeler 17 out of 20 found this review helpful
No storyline, no platform jumping, no shooting, no puzzles, but if it's red hot Yu-Gi-Oh card battling action you're looking for, there Stairway To The Destined Duel, is just about the most definate game you could wish for. You're job is to create a deck full of vicious monsters, cool magic attacks and sneaky traps and then try to outwit your opponent on the field of battle. There are around 1000 cards in the game and you must work you're way across the country, taking on all corners until you emerge victorius. It's perfect for Yu-Gi-Oh fans, but if youre new to the game, this may be a bit daunting.
WWE! June 25, 2003 7 out of 10 found this review helpful
Ive played the Yu-gi-oh WWE for ages, and i admit its the best version Konami has ever brought out, it uses the characters from the TV show and the set rules from the CCG! The game also follows a proper story alot better than the other versions, i would recomend this version, its gotta be the best yet!
Yu Gi Go ! June 7, 2003 17 out of 19 found this review helpful
yeah i know its yugioh but hey,A while ago i kinda lost interest in the whole duel monsters game, like many other's that is. Well the series was repeative and annoying to a point i managed to record them all. My interest was re kindled however when i was informed of the new series i thought, hey lets give it another go and now i dont miss an single episode..even if it means running home from work. Ok the game, i was browsing the shop for a cd, tired of listening to all my others , when at the counter i saw a huge yu gi oh poster, and thought hey the new games out so i looked for it and behind various other gba games was yugioh world wide eidtion. The moment i put the cartridge into my gba was the moment countless hours of my life were wasted, and it was worth it,i wanted to learn more about the game and stratergies so i became hooked and walked into a lot of people. There are so many cards, and even a password so you can obtain certain cards that you would like but dont appear in packs, the duels are fairly simple, thats if your a quick learner, if you not a plug and play the manual is some good reading and handy to keep around when tough duels appear. To play it safe its best to stick to the easier duelists and get decent cards first so you can customize and build your very own deck. The game is based on the TV series as far as i know, and some familier duelists appear so you can test your skills and kick there butt x.x just like yugi did, whats more you even get to duel yugi himself and his yami ^.- so do you think you got what it takes to defeat the king of games and have the title for yourself, only you can decide. Good luck and have fun, i sure did.
