Another Rally game, Not just.... December 16, 2003 Urban_Him (unTIED Kingdom!!!) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is another offering from developers Tantalus, who previously gave us ATV Power Quad Racing, which was suprisingly good, and of course Monster Truck Mayhem, which was suprisingly mediocre. This is definitely the best offering out of the three, just pipping ATV to the post. TG Rally is extremely playable, with fairly slick graphics to match. The graphics are not up to the V-Rally 3 or indeed Colin McCrae standard, but they are better than those of Sega Rally or indeed the GT rally games, and to be fair, they are pleasing to the eye. The playability of this game is also sky high, its very addictive, what with the difficulty and learning curve set just right. For instance, you will need to brake on some corners, and you will need to lookout for weather and surface conditions to match your tyres to suit. Basic premise then is pretty much now standard for rally games, three tracks for one event, giving you points for your position upon finishing. In order to progress, you will need to gain a certain amount of points to unlock the next track. This isnt too difficult, but you might find yourself playing a course a couple of times, especially on the levels where the danger of crashing off a cliff edge are pretty much certain unless you brake perfectly (i dont think ive ever gripped my SP so hard in its life). You are awarded new cars which give you the added advantage on later levels to compete, and also new colour schemes for these said cars are also rewarded. The car physics are also suprisingly good on this game, the car is pixelated in true Colin McCrae style, as apposed to the sprite graphic used in V-Rally.The let down, and to be honest, its nothing major, is the fact that this game has no licenced cars. To get round this, they've modelled the cars very closely on actual popular rally cars, and called them things like the "Evolve" Mmm... Evo anyone? If you look past the licencing issue, and the fact that its not a big named title, what you have is an extremely playable rally game that you cant help but enjoy playing. Worthy to be in anyones collection.
