Technical Issues March 25, 2008 Mr. Peter J. Lee (Chester, UK) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
Bought this product for use with my Wii and was impressed at how easy it was to set up. Installed first time, but then the next day it stopped working. The device simply isn't recognised by the computer - have tried re-installing drivers to no avail. Un-installed the device and now cannot install afresh - very annoying!
Well Done Amazon March 3, 2008 Mr GSP 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
I purchased the Nintendo WiFi USB for use with my nintendo Wii on the 1st March 08 and was amazed to receive it on the 3rd March 08 After having a nightmare with a cheaper USB link i took the plunge and went for the Nintendo USB,and followed the on-screen instructions on my PC,after 10 minutes i had my internet connection. i would recommend this product to anyone with Windows XP or Windows Vista
Hmm February 14, 2008 S. Scanlon (Cheshire, England) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Well after reading ALL the reviews on here and on other places, I decided to buy one of these, I was extremely spekitcal as to whether this connector would work. So I plugged it in when it told me to and whatnot and it worked! I was shocked! I've had one problem where it disconnected me but I believe that could have been my dodgy wireless. Either way I'm impressed. The only thing that worries me is how long it will continue to work, but for now I am happy. I would suggest buying one from amazon themselves, that way it can be return if you find it to be faulty.
product works - but BEWARE compatibility February 13, 2008 Carina the Tiger (UK) Nothing wrong with the product - except we can't use it with any security!! One review gave us hope that we could use this USB connector with our Zone Alarm firewall, even though another review says they are incompatible. The Dark Prince says, turn it off for install but then turn it back on and it will work. So we risked buying it. Not for us - the connection is initially made then is terminated after a few seconds by zone alarm. Is there any fix for this? We have tried moving the wifi connector to the trusted zone, and even turning firewall off for the trusted zone - connections are still terminated after a few seconds. Can anyone help? What did you do, Dark Prince ??? My 12 year old son can't afford 30 wasted on this...... We have also found that if the USB connector is not properly shut down and removed with the 'safely remove hardware' function, then it interferes with using the internet. You really can use only one product at a time - unless someone can help ????
Poorly designed January 15, 2008 Mr. J. Lapinskas 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
The USB access point has apparently been designed with simplicity as the overriding priority, which sounds sensible until you realise that when something designed fthis way goes wrong or runs into something its designers didn't think of, it generally can't be fixed. Such is the case here. A brief list of problems: - No support for non-Windows platforms - irritating since I spend most of my time using non-Windows platforms, but at least it's mentioned up front. - Totally incompatible with ZoneAlarm, a popular firewall, to the point at which it won't work at all unless ZoneAlarm is deactivated (resulting in a highly unsecure connection). This isn't related to my inability to set it up - it's a known issue. Apparently several other firewalls have similar problems. - If you connect via a router, expect some problems with IP conflicts if you use the 192.168.0.x or the 192.168.1.x addressing schemes (the most common). - Has no facility for setting a proxy. That might sound like a minor flaw that would only affect power users, but if you don't have full control over your network then it might be a serious issue. Universities especially like to use proxies. I'll repeat that. *IF YOU ARE A UNIVERSITY STUDENT, IT IS HIGHLY LIKELY THAT THIS ACCESS POINT WILL NOT WORK ON YOUR UNIVERSITY CONNECTION!* There's no way of making it work, either. Now I'm going to have to shell out for a wired adapter (because of course Nintendo couldn't just have used a standard network port)... These problems are caused mostly by a complete lack of configurability that could easily have been remedied at any stage in the device's development, but for whatever reason they weren't. All in all, unless you're absolutely certain it will work without a problem this device is best avoided.
