IMPORT TUNER (continued from Tokyo Extreme Racer) July 1, 2007 A. Nguyen 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
Man so many people diss this game. Its the real Jap style racing man, guess some people aint used to the Jap environment or they play too much Need for Speed. I'll tell you, this game is addictive along with the most realistic modifications ever ! This game is the true Jap style. The new style is born..

Simple but Addictive May 2, 2007 Jonathan Lund (Edinburgh, Scotland) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This game is much better than I expected when I bought it. When I'm playing Need for Speed Carbon or other racing games, I often find myself switching off and playing it instead. There is only so much track in the game, much less than other games, and it lacks the 'go anywhere' open cities of more mainstream games, but that is the only letdown I could find. The amount of tuning available to you is phenomenal, where everything makes a difference, right down to wheel sizes affecting handling, and additional clocks adding weight. This allows you to customise your car perfectly to your driving style, and you may find yourself beating much faster cars because of it. A lot of work has gone into the opponents, who are all named and described, and who may have different quirks making up prerequisites for racing them, be it the time of night, certain parts, or even which on ramp you start your cruise for races at.

I have only played this game for around 4 hours total. But I thought I really should write a review. This game is a severely underated GEM! This easily is the most customisable Racer I have ever seen, it outshines all of the Need for Speed series by miles. It also looks as good if not better than most of them too. NFS never seemed to get the feeling of speed quite right, Import Tuner hits the nail on the head perfectly. 150mph FEELS fast. Car physics isn't totally spot on, but I think the game leans slightly toward the arcade side of things, but saying that, it agian out does the NFS series, as you can't GET anymore arcade than those games. To be honest, me and a friend bought this game to fill in until Forza Motorsport 2 came out, we didn't expect much of it. We were very happily surprised by what greeted us upon starting the game. Just playing a quick VS. battle on "any" course with "any" car then watching the replay afterwards was reward enough. And for how cheap the game is now, you really can't go wrong. FM2 will be played when it comes out of course, Import Tuner isn't quite "that" good :). Oh and Ben, "For it being a tuner game its terrible theres on 4 different types of body kit 4 engine mods, infact its pointless to mod at all as it makes no difference" and "After 5 minutes i got bored and watched tv" - shows how little of a "Serious Gamer" you are, any "Serious Gamer" would play it for at LEAST 1 hour before making comments about it, and you only start with TWO levels of modding, not 4. But you can UNLOCK up to 9 levels of Engine mods, and believe me, they DO make a difference. As you would have seen if you had played the game for more than 5 minutes....
Creates a compulsion to keep on playing April 8, 2007 Amazonian Native (Amazon Rainforest) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is basically a revamped version of the old Tokyo Highway Challenge that was released on the Dreamcast many years back. The point of the game is to drive around Tokyo's famous C1 and surrounding freeways and race other drivers, when you spot a racer you flash your headlights at them and the challenge begins, the race lasts until somone's spirit meter depletes, this happens when a driver falls too far behind. Races can last just a minute to sometimes 5 minutes or more, where you just can't shake a competitor off, dodging and weaving through motorway traffic at flat out top speed as the pressure meter depletes, this game has perhaps some of the closest most thrilling races I've known in any game for a long time. There are hundreds of racers to beat, and they all belong to certain driving gangs, you work your way through them, earning cash and upgrading your car - the usual fare for todays racing games. It all sounds pretty one dimensional you might think, but the game is extremely addictive, you have to play it to know it. The graphics are great, the speed is good, there's even in car dash views. I have played every racing game on the 360 and i'd say this is perhaps the best of them all, it is completely unique in what it does and it grabs you and sucks you right in, if you like racing games and the Japanese racing culture in general you must try this game and see for yourself.
