As the all-new racing experience from Codemasters Studios, creators of Colin McRae: DiRT, Race Driver: GRID is all about the race. Every moment from the adrenalin rush at the start lights to the elation at the chequered flag - the tension, pressure, noise, and action. Featuring only the most powerful race cars - current and classic, circuit and drift - players will compete to conquer the most prestigious official race tracks and championships and then go beyond to compete in challenging city-based competitions, through to road events and urban street races. With races crammed with action and incident, high-impact moments will come at you thick and fast, one right after another: engine blows, tyre blow outs, tight overtaking, accidents, opponent cars flipping, spinning, collisions with other cars and trackside objects. From humble beginnings, earning a few thousand dollars a season, build a feared and respected racing team with a multi-million dollar income and complete at dramatic race locations and dominate a multi-disciplined world of racing. In Europe, race prestige Marques, including Aston Martin, Koenigsegg and Pagani, on the greatest official race circuits. Enter street competitions and race high-performance V8 muscle cars through iconic U.S. cities including San Francisco, Washington DC and Detroit. In the Far East, Japanese racing culture sets the tone where night races, including Drift racing, take drivers through neon illuminated cities and to outlying mountain roads. As the antithesis of the box-ticking, plodding single-player race game, Race Driver: GRID delivers a diverse career mode in a persistent world of racing that provides each player with a unique experience as their team writes itself into racing folklore.

Great to look at......That's about it!!! May 22, 2008 J. Nicholl (Warrington, England) First off, let's get the bad points out of the way; In normal circuit racing, cars handling can be quite unpredictable. Mainly, when powersliding, the car suddenly regains perfect grip which sends you flying off course as you are still steering into the slide. Also there is VERY harsh contrast between tarmac and grass, whereby the slightest over-rev or tiniest adjusment too far on the steering results in a 180* spin. This makes rejoining the race after a simple mistake as challenging as catching the field again! Difficulty settings on circuit racing have stark contrast also. The easiest setting has you leaving all the opposition in your dust (no challenge there!) whereas on the next setting up, the smallest mistake has the whole pack crashing all over you and only about 5 or so cars per lap are passable. In the drift mode, the slides are physically impossible to control well enough to gain the required amount of points to win! Even on the easiest difficulty, the AI still maintains immaculate scoring. Only a small percentage of the target score is realistically achievable. Drift mode is the biggest let down and the reason I shall NOT be buying a previously anticipated title. As for the good bits...the visuals are spot-on... Overall, the MOST frustrating, and unplayable racer EVER devised! If it's a decent 360-based racer you desire, then get PGR4 or Forza 2, as these are challenging, but fun titles which are actually playable! 'Nuff said!
The best 360 racer to date! May 21, 2008 J. R. Atkin (St Annes, UK) I love racing games, and I've played he best the 360 has to offer, PGR 3 & 4, Forza 2, Burnout Paradise etc etc. I downloaded the demo of this expecting an average racing experience, and was very pleasantly surprised to find it's simply awesome! Even at demo stage, it's plain to see that Codemasters have captured the spirit and excitement of racing more so than ever before. The features that made Dirt so successful are back - great graphics, super slo-mo replays, real-time damage and superb sound, all contributing towards a genuinely exciting racing experience. People talking about spinning all the time must be using the handbrake instead of the brake, as I find the handling quite sublime, especially as it will no doubt be tweaked again before full release. The 3 different styles of racing all have their own unique characteristics, and all work equally well. The demo even offers online play where all the detail, playability and speed are impressively maintained. Everyone on Live was commenting on how good it looks, when they had chance to pause for breath inbetween the most hectic and spectacular online races I've ever seen. My copy of PGR4 has already been traded for a credit note towards GRID. This game will rock. That's all you need to know.
Wheel good May 19, 2008 Ryan Quinn (Belfast) I played the demo of Grid at the weekend. For the weekend. This review is based on me playing the game with the official 360 wheel. I have played all the driving games thus far for the 360. Ironically, the Need for Speed most wanted was the best ... until now... having driven a rear wheel drive car this game is more than familiar. At the start, the learning curve is a bit steep as was NFS Most Wanted. Getting the car to do what you want it to do takes about an hour. I play the game in manual mode , using the paddle shifters. The car behaves as it should. The Nissan drift car is mayhem, but then it would be in real life. The wheel is amazing, no joke. It is as good as the arcade driving games, if not better. The game allows you to calibrate the wheel, so it should suit everybody. The wheel is essential for this game. Would you buy Rock Star without the guitar? No point. If you liked NFS Most Wanted, but wanted a tad more reality, this is the game for you. Next purchase , a proper gaming chair. BTW Dirt was just that.. DIRT. This game is much better.
