3 out of 5 stars Useful for increasingly space hungry demos and videos   July 18, 2008

I own a wii, a 360 (pro v2) and a ps3. Following the recent E3 announcements, I decided to purchase this item, and tbh I was fed up with content shuffling due to the small HDD space with the pro.

This item came with the 120Gb unit, a transfer cable, a transfer cd. You turn on your 360 with your 20gb HDD, plug the transfer cable in to the 360, connect the other end to the new 120gb hdd and insert the disc. It comes up with a transfer bar. It took 30mins to tranfer my content to the new drive. Turn off the console. swap the HDD's around. You're done. 107Gb space after install.

I have to say, while the whole process was easy, having to pay 100 for a 120gb drive is crazy when you can get a 250gb one or more for the ps3 for the same money. Anyway, that's opinion. The unit does what is says and it's a doodle to install.

5 out of 5 stars You need it now!   December 24, 2007

I've got the White 360 the new 1 with a HDMI port and i got the 120gb HDD free with it because it was on offer.

I had the old 360 and now my new 1 matches the elite, you do need the 120gb now because with the december update on xbox live market place, it allows you to download games on to your 360. Such as classic arcade games eg Sonic, Street fighter now it lets you get xbox original like Halo 1, Fable and many more also now map packs are in the 1gb+ so you do need it.

Also once you upgrade you DON'T need a transfer cable off Microsoft, you can just recover your gamertag and then once you've done that anything you bought off marketplace you can re-download on to your new HDD because it knows you have paid for the download.

I bought things lke Shivering isles exp for Oblivion and when i went to it, it had a tick next to it that showed i already paid for it so got it again. I think this is brilliant and now PS3 has nothing on 360!!!

5 out of 5 stars Dont Buy It!   December 1, 2007

Sorry my other review was a load of rubbish, I had no idea on what I was talking about. This is a real review of the item.

First off you don't need that much space! Ive had an Xbox 360 for over two years now and I have only used 10.4GB worth of memory, and that includes the 6/7GB the system itslsef takes up automatically.
Unless you store films on your XBox then you certainly will not need the extra 100GB. If I were to make a guess, each game you play on your XBox 360 console (unless you don't save anything) will take up less space than a 4 minute music soundtrack. Thats only 4/1000th of a gigabyte. And if you buy games, demos, and short movie clips (like a game preview) from the XBox Live marketplace, then that will take up about half a gig.

So basically only buy this if you store all your movies on your 360, otherwise stick with your 20GB HDD.

Oh and also the price was 109quid a few weeks ago, now its 129.99. So if you're actually going to buy this just remember, you could have got it 20pound cheaper if you got here earlyer! Hahahah!

1 out of 5 stars rip off   October 11, 2007

Amazingly, Microsoft continue to blatantly rip off customers this side of the Atlantic. Not only do the British pay a huge premium for the Xbox Live service versus their US counterparts, but this HDD is sold here at a huge premium - just compare Amazon.com vs amazon.co.uk prices.

Don't bother.

3 out of 5 stars Bit Pricey For A Laptop HDD In A Shell   September 9, 2007

Now the main reason why this is expensive and you can ask any PC guy who understands hardware like me is this FACT. It's a notebook hard drive in a cusomized casing and it's 120GB and todays storage for PC's and laptops are normally around 160GB+. So it's a special request in theory because of it being 120GB and not many HD companies make 120GB anymore.

That been said for the adverage 360 user who downloads content and listens to loads of music while they play this is a worth upgrade. For people like me who don't buy much content but do download free maps for games and have a lot of games you might need it. But currently I only have 2 games and so the content for completed games that I have got rid of I delete.

My advice really is if you want the extra storage and your console is slightly old (check the serial bit on the back of your console to finds it's built date). Then trade/sell your current model and buy an ELITE it's....

Modern
120GB HDD
HDMI Port (If your using a HD TV)
It's Black (WOOOOOOOOOOOW not!)

Basically a newer up-to-date console with all the current features you can pass over your gamertag and content from the 20GB to the 120GB with the transfer cable. Unfortunatly you have to contact microsoft for the thing to be sent to you but just get a memory card copy your games saves across and re-download everything on your 120GB and pass over the saves. Need to be connected to LIVE all the time for content to work that was bought when using your old console. Any new content bought throught the ELITE your fine.
