Amazon.co.uk Review Final Fantasy VI, originally released as Final Fantasy III on the Super Nintendo, is a straight SNES conversion, so its 2-D graphics and 16-bit sounds are admittedly sub-par by PlayStation standards. However, SquareSoft have added new, beautifully animated movies for this release, and the endearingly melodramatic characters, a genuinely epic story line, and rock-solid gameplay make Final Fantasy VI just as absorbing today as when it was Final Fantasy III. To top it off, also included is a demo of Final Fantasy X (only playable on PS2). --Joe Hon

Looking for more after FF12? May 12, 2007 wiz (enfield, uk) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Apart from obviosly FF7 this is the best game ever - not only in the FF series. Its tricky at the beginning (i've died more in this than any other), but this game is so much fun. The graphics are simple and not over the top, but the mini games wouldn't work with new outstanding graphics. To trigger events you need differnt people in your party and when you think the game is over it goes into part two. This game has everything, music, characters, side quests, its brilliant. One tip - don't cheat by looking for hints on-line, just relax and enjoy. There will not be another game like this ever.

Living in the UK I never got the chance to experience Final Fantasy III when it was released on the snes in america way back in 1993. So when Final Fantasy VI arrived in england before FFX on the PS2 I immdeiately purchased the game with the intention on playing the demo of FFX and not FFVI, but being a fan of the series it didn't take long to pop that disk in and start playing. From the first scene to the last I was overwhelmed with nearly every aspect of the game, here is why. The grapics by todays standards are very ordinary but still makes the game what it is. For 1993 this was speical stuff, with little animations from each character and detailed backdrops including the world map you can't help but be amazed on what square have achieved in this cartridge with tiny little space. The music and sound for this game are outstanding. With hardware restrictions Nobuo Uematsu (Composer)has done an incredible job. The songs really fit the mood of each character and scene par a few which really do little to discredit how good this is. Personal favs are terra's theme, boss battle and shadow's theme. The Battle system is something all modern day final fantasy players can get stright into with menu driven tactic commands. Attacks, spells and summons (Espers in this game)are all part of what makes this game great from the get go. The time spent on this game took a big chunk out of my life with about 20-25 hours to complete and additional 10-15 hours to collect and do everything which means you should be in for the long haul, but don't be worried because by the time you finish you will want more. To finish I would like to say that most people are put of from RPG's because of time length and the genre in general but hey this is one game you never want to miss. EVER.
A good reminder of past glories October 15, 2005 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
FF6 is simply a very good ff game. Although overall not as good as ff7, in places thi game is brilliant. This game will make you laugh and will make you cry, i only wish I could have played it when it first came out on the SNES. All the charcters are intersting and have a very detailed sub plots and the plot of the game is brilliant. You certainly get a nostalgic feel playing this game, as I played it after 7,8,9 and 10, I could see elements from those games in this one and that have crept into other rpg outside the 'final fantasy universe', it certainly one of the most influential games ever. The music, though only the modern equivalent in qulaity of sound of a mobile phone game, is very good, you'll be humming it for hours. The 'equipment' is well done is this game. Very similar to ff7 yet without the materia slots and more adaptable and engrossing as certain equipment can be equiped by more than one charcter etc. And also the 'relic' equipment is interestingly done. Now the reasons why I don't feel this game is not 5/5. When you first start the game it takes a long time for your character to move across the screen its only after attaining a relic, that has to be equiped at all times and doesn't have any effect on your status whilst battling, that this problem is solved. Another strange thing aobut this game is it seems much harder at the start of the game then it is at the end. Now thats not just because I wasn't used to the battle system etc, Ive replayed the game several times and I feel my party is destroyed far more often within the first hour of the game then it is at any other point. Another problem is the sheer number of random battles you get pulled into. Its ridiculous. It literally is take two steps then battle. Although I enjoyed the game I'd say its definitely one for ff fans only and at that fans who see graphics as the least important aspect of the game as form my understanding this is exactly the same graphic that featured in the SNES version with the exception of part of the opening sequence.
oh, I didn't know it was 2D May 13, 2004 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
I originally bought this game just because I want to get all of the Final Fantasy games. I didn't expect too much from it (I must have passed the 500 hour mark on combined FFVII play-through's)just because it's an earlier FF but damn I was wrong! This is easily my 2nd favorite FF (Wonder what's first) - FFVIII and higher just can't compare to it. The story line is second to one (wahey!) and the world map is fantastic (infinitely better than FFX & FFX-2). All of the favourite summons are here including some cool one's that seem to have been dropped from the later games. All in all this FF is a must rather than a set filler. Now what's this about 2D?
Who cares about the graphics, this is one awsome game January 16, 2004 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I am a massive Final Fantasy fan and if you are too then deffinatley buy this game. Even though the graphics aren't too impressive i still find this game just as enjoyable as any of the other Final Fantasy games. I would even say that Final Fantasy VI was one of the best.It is longer than the newer final fantasy's by far and has a much better story. Don't hesitate, just buy the game, you won't regret it.
