Takes you back - Great for Asteroids & Battlezone !! May 24, 2006 NP (Esher, Surrey) 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
If you want to play Asteroids, Space Duel, Tempest, Centipede, Missile Command and Battlezone using the SAME ORIGINAL CODING as the arcade games from your youth - then this is the game for you. These 6 games are the reason why you you would buy this collection, (although time probably has not been kind to these games). Highly customisable - eg screen views can be customised so it looks like the original machine round the outside or just the inside screen; points for bonuses and extra lives can be adjusted. As it is an Anthology it also contains (probably all of) the early blocky Atari console system games which weren't that great at the time and certainly aren't great now. (If you want to show your own kids the first computer game: Pong, then it is here as well... 2 bats and a ball might not excite them !) But it is not designed for today's kids, it's taking YOU back again to those arcade games you want to play again: if you do want to play Battlezone again (both joysticks forward, both joysticks back, one joystick forward or back etc) i.e. controlling the caterpillar tracks on either side of the tank)then this is the game for you. Each game does quickly become repetitive so you won't be playing for hours and hours - these games were designed so you'd only play for a few minutes then put another 10p in the slot. So put Heaven 17 on the jukebox, balance your pint of beer precariously somewhere, get in the pork scratchings again and... it is almost 1982 again!! (Until they build a time machine this is the closest you're going to get!). (Just try not to think that this was actually 25 years ago !!!)
Oh Dear August 9, 2005 Neil Willis (Somerset) 34 out of 39 found this review helpful
I thought this was going to have all those really cool retro arcade games. There are a couple that I thought were pretty much like the arcade originals; Meteors, Centepede and oh actually that's it. The rest is just the really bad blocky type graphics from the Atari 2600 console system of the early 80's.Wait for this to be included as a giveaway with The Sun because it just isn't worth paying for. Not even 1
