''follow your own path in your own world'' August 29, 2008 C. Price (Wales CF82) OBLIVION: First off the game is outstanding and comes second in my opinion to the massive online rpg world of warcraft, the game althogh offline gives you more quests than any other games and lasts a staggering 500 hours. There are hundreds of goals, you can barter objects with other characters for gold to purchase houses, horses for faster travel, other furnitre, potions, drink ECT and other enchanted and strong weapons, clothing and armor wich can be used to kill many other animals, creatures enchanted, mystical, dangerous, fantasy, and realistic and of course other enemies, gods, devils, and people that can range from dark elfs and lizards to lions and magicians, talking about magic you can practise it and use it whenever you want you can turn invisible, cast fire balls, lightning bolts and snowballs, this also follows bethsedas motto "follow your own path" because you can foolow the path of a wizard swordsman fighter a mixture or all and theres more paths than that. Every quest has a consequence as you make a rang of bizare, evil and good decisions wich there will be many for instance if you kill someone wich if you do they never come back but if you kill someone in a quest or let them live they will sometimes help you in other quest and unlock things for you or just hold you back later on when you might have to kill them anyway, there are some uniqe items in the game that can be dropped lost and never seen again althogh if you drop something it stays there forever, this is all thanks to the ps3's very powerful cell processer wich saves all objectes dropped and even when your not there the game actually makes characters move miles away meaning that in the top screen characters who can't die but are part of a quest that go unconcious appear there you may find someone goes unconicious even if your on the other side of the map! wich takes about half an hour to cross mabye even more than that you can also join guilds about 4 wich unlock secrets. It also uses the physics engine wich make the bodys of dead, armor, food and every object in the game fall realistic the ps3 can hold loads of items falling at once wich nis also helped again by the cell processer. there are expansions packs 2 in total are downloadable but are free and already in the cd thanks to very large blue-ray disk listed below KNIGHTS OF THE NINE: But because this is the game of the year edition it also includes the knights of the nine expansion pack, where you play as a crusader for the nine wich are nine gods and your objective to destroy umarail, the game also features new knight that can follow you and defend you to the death new knight aromor and weapons wich are enchanted every item new locations people and friends. SHIVERING ISLES: Shivering isles is half the size of cyrodill wich is quite big for expansion it's more fun than oblivion and is a mad realm owned by sheogorath your objective to become a deodric god and defend the realm shivering isles. The costumes are much better the weapons and armor are more powerful and magic is more powerful wich you can take and sell for more gold in cyrodill also there are new creatures. Oblivion is another realm part of the original game owned by another deadric god (deadric are evil and there are deadric weapons) wich you have to destroy, and defend cyrodill to stop the deadric god from invading. Overall I give the game 9/10 exellent as you know by the name it's the games of the year and although it's a great game there are still faults. 1 even thogh the graphics are great the other places are and backround are not very graphically detailed there's no real next gen look about the game and it seems your really restricted to only a couple of actions the jumping looks unrealistic the horse sometimes gets trapped in the ground sometime the constance use of the cgi system, cell processer and physic engine really tires ps3 out sometimes crashes and gets it very hot and loud also save data sometimes corrupts after a while it gets less fun but also could be addictive and when that happens elder scrolls expects to be nerdy if you play to much. It's general type is rpg but probably could be classed as action, puzzle, adventure nearly every type, and there is probably something for everyone and the negative things about it bearly happen the price is a bargain your not only getting oblivion wich on this website costs 40.00 but your getting massive the shivering isles expansion and knights of the nine plus I have bothe oblivion and game of the year and I notice a couple of new tracks, new sound effects for walking and probably much more and your getting it for half the price wich is crazy worth buying the game again for extra expansions. also try the gameof the year edition stragedy guideElder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Official Strategy Guide (Prima Official Game Guides)and try the xbox versionThe Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - Game of the Year Edition (Xbox 360)
Just a little bit dull July 28, 2008 pickmaker (UK) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Firstly the positives: graphics great, numerous quests, long game length. Now the negatives... The game is just a little bit dull. In games like Baldurs gate 2 (best RPG in my opinion), each quest felt unique and fleshed out. In Oblivion everything just feels the same, especially the Oblivion gate domains (pretty much identical) with no atmosphere at all. Oblivion is a vast open do anything you want type game. I guess I prefer a more linear, more directed type game. The fighting mechanism is also a bit dull, but the spells are okay. BTW, the game contains a major bug. If you contract the vampire disease, the cure quest will not work on the GOTY edition.
I would say this is the best game I've ever played but... July 23, 2008 Mr. Mj Johnson (england) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
First of all I would like to say the comments posted above me are all completely correct and acurate. The game is highly adictive I have over fifty hours of gameplay on it at the moment and still haven't completed it. The freedom to do what you want nearly made this the best game I ever played however there is one terrible fault. When doing the vampire hunting quest you are likely to get infected with a afflication known as vampirism. There are upsides and downsides to this you get more powers and abilities and you can carry more stuff however you cannot go outside during the day unless you have feasted which makes some quests undoable There is however a cure for vampirism which brings me to the problem. In order to cure vampirism you must collect a large amount of difficulty found ingredients. Once you have done this you go back to the witch and ask her to make her the potion but she refuses one of your ingredient and consequently it is impossible to be cured of vampirism I have currently emailed the manufacturer Bethesda studios and I suspect my reply will be the same as everybody elses "In order to fix this you will need to buy the non game of the year edition of Oblivion" Okay so suppose you have money to burn so buying a inferior product to the one you already own isn't a problem to you. If you have already completed the shivering isles expansion pack you will lose all of your items unless stored elsewhere from that expansion pack and you will lose all of your powers (some of them MAY be recoverable by talking to Haskin in the shivering isles) so overall if you do want this game which I reccomend in all fairness either be prepared to buy the non game of the year edition as well and remember to complete the main quest before you enter the shivering isles or which i reccomend buy it on Xbox 360 or PC. The graphics aren't as good on xbox as it is on ps3 and the content is lesser the PC version is better anyway but only if you have a high-spec PC (please check before buying the game) So overall I would say that the vampirism bug has ruined the game for me so my favoutite game of all time still is the original metal gear solid hope this helps
Best Game Ever (And I've played hundreds) July 12, 2008 M. A. O'mahoney (Middlesex, England) This game is simply the best game I have ever played and will probably ever play. I have never had a favourite game that I owned until this one. There were a few favourites as everyone has (GTA 4, COD 4 etc) but this is simply the best. The Environment that you play in is the most beautifully, breathtaking environment that you will see and it is HUGE. The gameplay is the best I've ever known and after over 300 hours (estimated although it's probably longer!) I'm still playing. I only recently completed the quest but I still have not seen the whole game environment or been inside all the caves, forts, etc that are all over the place. I'm pretty sure I haven't found them all yet aswell!!!! This game will take over a large part of your life once you play for the first time. It really will. Everything becomes secondary. Even my wife preferred watching me play this for the evening than watching SKY TV. Trust me everyone when I say that is probably the biggest compliment I can give to any game. Normally it was when are you finshing up. Now it's when are you playing!! Sorry I got to go now and play again. I'm suffering withdrawel symptoms while writing this. Must try and get my character to level 34.
Brilliant! June 17, 2008 Laura Mclean (Edinburgh, Scotland) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Be warned first!! Don't become a vampire!! It first of all sucks because you can no longer be in sunlight so say goodbye to open shops! And theres a bug which doesn't let you complete the quest to cure yourself which means your pretty much stuck, I lost ALOT of gameplay because of that!! But the game (other than that) is fantastic, I could easily say it's the best game I have ever played. There is just so much to it that you will end up losing sleep over. Go on buy it you know you want to!!
