Much Improved October 19, 2008 Master C. Vella-bone (London) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Every year I buy both NBA Live and NBA 2K, for a few years now I believe 2K has been the far better game in terms of graphics and gameplay. Not anymore! The Dynamic DNA feature is amazing, the players really do follow their tendencies and it makes the game feel much more realistic. Taking free throws is sooo easy, i havent missed one yet and on the 2K series they can prove to be quite difficult and it feels like you are Shaq when at the line. Dynasty mode is much improved. You get points throught the year for winning games, getting on the all-star team etc and then you can upgrade your staff and eventually get them all to an A standard. They have also added a trading block which makes things easier and during draft night trades are made and this makes it feel much more realistic. The only flaw with the trades is that the cpu offers terrible trades, I just got offered as the Lakers: Andrew Bynum (85) Derrick Rose (90) for Shawn Marion (79) obviously a rediculous offer. Training your players is much better this year with the Academy set-up. You run various drills with different players each month in order to help them develop as a player and once again this makes the game feel like a real nba training session. There are also many more international teams which is a great addition, I love this because we can play as Great Britain (but the commentator says England for some reason). However in the GB squad we have John Amaechi on the team and he actually retired a few years back so that is a bit of a flaw. I could go on for ages about this game, it is by far the best in the Live series and in my opinion the best basketball game. 5/5 for gameplay and 5/5 for realism.
Forget the 2K series! October 9, 2008 Ben (West Yorks, UK) 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
Got this game earlier today and have played it for approx 2 hours. The last few years have seen a bit of a slide in the 'fun' of basketball games but Live 09 marks a bit of a revival. There are plenty of credible competetors, (NBA 2K9, NBA 09) but after having tried demo's of the other developers take on the NBA franchise, i must recommend this game over the others. Presentation is amazing, and it's very easy to pick up. The NBA academy also allows you to hone your skills before turning the difficulty up. Franchise mode offers much more depth and the NBA 365 seems to be a great feature (yet to use it) updating rosters and players stats day by day, so if a rookie emerges over the next few months, his stats in the game will reflect this. You're game should be up to date right until Live 2010! Only one flaw, there is no Be a Pro career mode like NHL 09 offers. It would have been a great addition and added a touch more depth but hey, maybe next year. 4/5
