Green Picture with BD/DVD November 5, 2008 Susan (UK) Anyone who doesn't get a green screen playing BD/DVD discs with this lead has it plugged into a non-RGB enabled scart socket. The lead will improve the picture compared to the lead supplied with the PS3. If you need automatic scart switching via a splitter box you will need a fully wired 21-pin scart lead such as this. PS: games immune to the green screen effect
Mostly Excellent... October 16, 2008 G. Tittley (Scotland, UK) Cable construction is good, nice metal shell on SCART. Works great with my PS3 into TV (panasonic 32" CRT) RGB via SCART. An obvious improvement over the supplied PS3 composite cable. Blu-Ray discs look excellent - about as good as it gets in the analogue world. No sign of the 'green screen' mentioned by other reviewers. HD downloads played on PS3 look superb (even in SD) - (Try Kung-Fu Panda 1080 trailer). Only down side is a tendency for the cable to come loose at the PS3 end (it's very stiff); a slight 'realignment' of the connector shell and improved cable routing solved this. At the price this is an excellent cable.
Dissappointed - System failure/let-down, not cable. June 6, 2008 P. G. Danyluk (Chippenham, Wiltshire) I am sure this is a great item as recommended by many reviewers. However, when I connected this from my PS3 to the RGB enabled SCART socket (EXT 1) of my standard def TV, my games have a rather annoying green tint to them. I have tried changing my video output settings within the Display settings of the XMB but to no avail. I have even contacted Playstation UK for technical advice. Interestingly, I was told that this is fact and is in place as a copy-right protection measure. I was basically told to use the composite cable supplied with the system. Instead I just switched the cable into the standard SCART socket (EXT 2) of my TV which projects the same images as that of the supplied composite cable. To those reviewers receiving improved graphical images without any green tinting/hues occurring through their standard def TV's RGB output, please let me in your secret. My disappointment is more with the PS3's video output and all the positive recommendations from other reviewers rather than the cable itself.
Recommended for Gamers, not for movie buffs May 8, 2008 R. Mills (London UK) As a long time hi-fi lover, I have no problem grappling with the idea of upgrading the bundled cables of my gadgets. With no Official product on the scene this is the best built one I've found - very well made - though does it really need to be 2m long? There are other scart leads around from 'toy' shops with gaming areas but not all are RGB - which gives the best signal via SCART on a standard TV. I have a nice quality Loewe 32in CRT telly; the PS3 menus and home environment are much easier to follow - darker backgrounds and crisper text - instantly noticeable. The games are much clearer, brighter and sharper too - with nicely saturated colours. Again a big, noticeable improvement, which is even more apparent if you leave it in for a bit, and then switch back to the original PS3 composite lead - then see what you're missing. Obviously, make sure you're using an RGB supported scart socket on the telly - only 2 of my 3 scart sockets are RGB and you have to specify this in the set-up menu of the telly. And make sure the PS3 is also synced. PROBLEM.... Like others here, playing BluRay discs gives you the monochrome green screen - so you'll need to swap over to the old PS3 cable and go composite - not much point buying Blurays in other words... as my old DVD player is RGB scarted too. HOWEVER, I have since managed to get the Loewe to display better colour on BluRays via this cable when setting it to YUC with a sync to YC - not exactly sure what this is but it looks better than composite - probably S-video quality, as the images are brighter and sharper than with just the old PS3 lead. Hopefully someone will post some tips to getting Blurays to work with this. Sadly, this setting wont work for the PS3 games - so you will have to switch back and forth. As it's not much hassle switching modes on the TV set-up, I'm keeping the cable installed for Games and just switch to the other mode on the telly when i want to watch the one Blu-Ray disc I own. For Games it's a definite best buy... very close to how the PS3 looks on my small LCD via HDMI - which is very good news for those with last generation hi-end CRT tellys.
Best choice for standard def TV May 4, 2008 J. P. Portas (UK) Certainly gives a noticable improvment over supplied composite lead - deeper blacks, more vivid colours and generally sharper picture. Word of warning - Don't buy if you intend to watch DVDs on a standard def TV - you'll get a green monochrome picture. This is a PS3 hardware design flaw rather than a fault with the cable itself. Doesn't affect games
