Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.co.uk Review
You may already have played a mini-game on the Wii, in something like Rayman Raving Rabbids or WarioWare, where you have to move a ball through a maze simply by tilting the Wii remote. Kororinpa (basically the Japanese equivalent of the word "plink") is those mini-games expanded and turned into a whole game. It's also not too dissimilar to Super Monkey Ball, in the sense that you control the maze, not the ball, moving the remote to tilt the game world and get your little marble to the goal on each level. Unlike Monkey Ball though the game works in full 3D, with you twisting and turning the maze so that one minute you're rolling down a slide which you then twist around to become the ceiling or wall.

As you might imagine the added complexity of thinking in three dimensions makes the game seem almost impossibly hard at times, but it's ruthlessly fair and however much you might like to pretend failure is always your fault and not the game or the controller's. Sensibly, developer Hudson has ensured that the maze designs are the only overcomplicated aspect, and there are a number of cute animal shaped marbles to unlock as well as some that are heavier or more bouncy. There's also a split screen two player mode where oddly the second player has to use the nunchuck - a feature apparently added only to cause animosity between players as you fight for control. It's not for the short of temper, but for those with the patience to play it this is the most rewarding puzzler for a long time.

5 out of 5 stars Possibly the best game I've played on the Wii!   January 6, 2008

I'll try to keep this review relatively short for you - I'm not really someone who writes many reviews for stuff but I felt this game thoroughly deserves more praise!

I bought this game after reading some good reviews about it and I also wanted something a bit different to play on the Wii. This game surpassed my expectations in every way! It's a fantastic fun 2 player game and is also extremely enjoyable in single player mode trying to beat your top scores. It's incredibly imaginative and refreshingly different to many games out there. The idea is amazingly simple but unbelievably addictive. You have to keep your ball on the course and get it to the end as quickly as possibly using the tilt/motion sensor of the Wii remote, sounds dull I know but the design and layout of each course is beautifully designed and there are surprises around each corner - I found myself unable to put the controller down for hours and thoroughly enjoyed every minute playing it. Yes, as some other people have mentioned, there are not really enough levels but even if the game had 1000 levels I'm sure it still wouldn't be enough! There are about 47 levels in total and each one is superb fun. Even when you complete all of the levels you can play the game all over again using a different ball, each one gives the game a slightly different feel (faster, slower, bouncier etc). Overall I found this game to be totally addictive, fantastic fun and beautifully made. Yes there could be more levels, yes the graphics are not as crisp and vivid as an Xbox 360 or PS3 game but it just wouldn't work on any other console - the Wii remote feels so responsive and works like a charm on this game! 5 stars all round in my opinion! Roll on Kororinpa 2!! (excuse the pun...) :)

5 out of 5 stars Brilliantly compulsive   October 22, 2007

This is one of the most compulsive and addictive games I have played for a long time.

65 levels to tax your control over the Wii remote and you can change difficulty using more awkward balls.

A great one for kids and adults alike.

4 out of 5 stars Great Fun!   June 14, 2007

I would agree with most reviews posted so far. I have had great fun with Kororinpa, the Wii controls make it so much more interactive than similar games on other consoles. The levels are nicely detailed, some easy, some not so easy.

I have completed the 45 normal levels, 13 of the secret levels and the first bonus level so far and the game still goes on as I am trying to collect all crystals and win gold trophys for time on all levels to unlock more.
Maybe more levels would have been nice but there are quite a few once you add up the 45 normal, 15 secret and 5 bonus levels. This is a truly addictive and at times frustrating (in a good way!)game if you really go for it and try to unlock everything. It is quite short if all you do is complete the normal levels but the added unlockable levels and balls add to the game considerably.

My one complaint is that although you can unlock many different balls from a marble to a pig to a rugby ball, the differences between them are quite subtle. I was expecting more trouble with the rugby ball than I got, for example. That said, it's a minor gripe and this is a worthy addition to any Wii collection.

4 out of 5 stars My Favourite Wii Game   April 27, 2007

This is such an enjoyable game to play and would surely be a welcome addition to anyone's Wii collection.

It can be very frustrating and hugely challenging, but it always remains a lot of fun to play. I almost tied myself in knots trying to flip my controller subtley and speedily into the desired position to stop my ball falling off course.

It's only shortcoming has been outlined in other reviews - it is simply too short at 45 levels (plus mirrors of those courses). Of course there is still plenty of fun to be had once you have completed it by racing in multiplayer and looking to beat your record times. I'd have given this 5 stars if it had another 25 or so levels (is that unrealistic?), but hopefully we will see more in the sequel that this game deserves.
