Created specifically to make full use of the Wii?s unique control system, PES 2008 brings all the realism of Pro Evolution Soccer to the Nintendo machine, but with a more ?team-orientated? control system. The Wii game mirrors the real sport?s use of open space and the exploitation of defensive lapses and accurate passes essential in creating scoring opportunities. The Wii version of PES 2008 expands on these elements, with the use of the Nunchuck and Wii Remote controllers giving the player control over both the player on the ball, and those around him. Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 Features: Using a point and drag system, the player uses the Wii Remote to guide the player with the ball, and perform all the skill moves and close control with subtle movements of their hand. Instantly, the Wii Remote is used to point at nearby players to select them to receive a pass or to latch on to a through-ball. The Remote can also be used to steer the run of the receiving player, giving extra control as they thread through masses of defenders or run into open space. The new system gives the player full control over their team, and allows the man marking of specific threats, while shakes of the Wii Nunchuk can be used to perform sliding tackles, and send the goal keeper out to clear a loose ball. The strategic elements are also easily accessed, with the directional controls of the Wii Remote used to activate tactical plays and spring counter attacks or send players tracking back. PES 2008 for Wii features six game modes, spanning Match, League and Cup elements, and Training and Trade section. The new version also features an exclusive ?Champions Road? competition, wherein players take their chosen team to compete in league competitions all over the world.  A nice start on the Wii for Pro Evolution Soccer May 17, 2008

I have to admit I was a bit sceptical about how the mechanics of this game would work. For years I've been playing the conventional d-pad with, pass, shoot, lob etc buttons. However, Pro Evo on the Wii requires a complete rethinking of how we play football games.
Instead of the previously mentioned "classic" style controls you now use the wii-mote to point (mouse style) at the screen. Clicking and dragging out moves your player, while clicking on players not on the ball allows you to move them into space for that all important pass. You then you the nunchuck (by flicking it) to shoot or head or volley etc. On defence you use the Wii-mote to click on players to mark, using the nunchuck to mark closer. Simple flicks of the controls can get players offside or go in for a slide tackle.
It does sound more complex but I admit that after a bit of practice it becomes second nature. However you will need to play a good 4-5 games to get it all, or at least most of the tricks down. After that you can really unlock the full potential of this game and start setting up some plays that would never be available to you with conventional controls. Part of this ability is in the games reduced amount of A.I usage making quick passes, through balls, crosses etc much more realistic and accurate.
The game features various modes: league, cup, a revamped (and much better in my opinion) Master League called Champions Road, plus the ability to take your skills online. Having tried out most of these features I can tell you there isn't much different from previous Pro Evolution games (apart from the really quite fun Champions Road). However the real trick is the online gaming. You can either challenge a friend using the Wii friend codes or you can let the computer choose you a random player from around the world. Having had my a*se whipped 5-0 online its obvious there is every skill level playing out there, so build your skills to avoid humiliation. One down side is the lack of an online leader board or the chance to build a league with friends, oh and watch out for people disconnecting when you start winning.
Overall this is a big game for anyone with a Wii, I'm glad Konami didn't go down the "family fun" route to make this game far too simplistic (i.e FIFA 08 on the Wii). It's difficult but realistic and truly does give you so much freedom when playing. The usual gripes of lack-of-licensing plagues Pro Evo yet again and the graphics are not as good as they could have been (the crowd are far to pixelated). However that was never the point of Pro Evolution Soccer and once again its the gameplay which has you coming back for more. I fully recommend this game to anyone with a Wii, here's hoping PES 09 can improve it even further.

Utter garbage. Save your money and buy FIFA 08 for the PS3, or PSP. This is unplayable nonsense.

When I first saw the advert for this game I was over whelmed with the thought that it would be miles too hard and complicated and talking to my friends they think it would be too but when I first got it it wasn't as complicated as I first thought it would be and I picked it up really easily. I am not a person who spends hours and hours on end on my Wii but I spend enough time to know that this is a good game. It is much better than other football games because you can send team mates on runs (more than one at a time) and generally tell your team where to move to. The graphics aren't amazing but it does not restrict the quality of the game and it hasn't bothered me. I have not come across any floors in the game yet. I am also so surprised at the price... I thought it would be an extra tenner on top off what it is. If you are wondering about this game, just go for it, it is brilliant and well worth it. You will have great fun on it!!!!!

Really, really good fun game. Both me (37) and my son (6) are totally addicted. YOu can play with your Mii's or real players. The Champions Road and League are both veru involving.
The Wii controls gave a great feel of 'control' over passing and gamep[lay. Very easy to pick it up and play.
Very recommneded.

I am uninterested in football, yet alone football games. The positive reviews caught my interest, but then I had seen a video of the unique controls for the wii version and I had to admit this actually made me reluctant to consider this game - its control system looked unneccessarily complicated and it didn't appeal to me. Nevertheless I made a snap decision to buy it. By my surprise, this is my favourite game on the wii yet and I can't seem myself getting tired of it. You have to unlearn the traditioanl way of playing football games and take on a whole different approach. Beginners would be advised to go through a tutorial or have a bit of practice to pick up the controls. However after a little bit of practice, you begin to get more into the game, as you realise you can control almost any player simultaneously and this allows you to play the game tactically.
My favourite feature of this game is its online experience. It allows one player to play against opponents online in a free match that lasts about 20 mins and it searches for other opponents really quickly. What's beneficial about the online experience is that you can learn different and more superior tactics from the way your online opponent plays. The visuals are quite good considering it is the wii...but the players heads look a bit large and as always there is room for improvements. The opportunity to play with you Mii characters in a free match adds to the fun. If you are a wii owner, regardless of whether you are a football fan or not, I would definitely recommend getting this game.
