Manufacturer's Description
Step onto the pitch and play professional football your way in FIFA 09. Experience the most authentic football simulation EA Sports has delivered as you live the fantasy of playing as a professional player and customise the game to suit your style and ability.

Powered by the third generation of the EA Sports football engine, FIFA 09 features more than 250 core gameplay additions and enhancements that deliver the most responsive, intelligent and realistic action ever for the series. Enjoy turning defenders with more controlled dribbling and ball control, snapping off precision shots with improved first-time shooting mechanics and firing beautifully timed passes with greater accuracy, placing the ball exactly where you want it.

With new player momentum physics the speed and weight of the player determines everything from the distance of a slide tackle and the power of a header to the severity of player collisions and the height of a player's jump. Plus, players now behave according to their physical attributes with larger, stronger players dominating collisions, battles for control of the ball, and position in challenges for two player headers.

3 out of 5 stars SO SLOOOOOOW!..and boring   January 5, 2009

I got this game with great anticipation after all the hype from my friends and on the internet. However i have been really disappointed, at first i thought i just needed to get used to the game but i soon realised that it it wasnt me it who was bad it was the game! it literally takes seconds to get a player to pass the ball, the movement is so slow and frustrating that you find yourself pressing buttons and after a delayed period the player attemps the action but low and behold hes tackled already

who wants to play out 0-0 draws?!

no hope of scoring any great strikes outside the box, not much hope of scoring a 1v1 either, this game is too realistic for its own good with 1-0 score lines being the norm... boring!

having a skillfull player like robinho doesnt help either due to the new body weight mechaninc thingy. robinho for example will be easily knocked off the ball and fall to the ground with the slightest of touches and no foul is given.

Dont beleive the hype, unless you manage a football team and want to try out different tactics, maybe try out high pressure woo hoo, then i cant imagine why anybody would want to play on it. dull. slow and ultimatly frustrating

Fifa 09 adds a whole new dimension to football games on the next generation consoles!! I am an Xbox 360 owner and I have had this game since release date. The Be a pro mode is simply amazing.... Ive gone from an un-noticed Cardiff City U-18 to a Liverpool regular. Manager Mode is also good but you have got to keep an eye on your players fitness levels, you need big squads for rotation and that!! I havent played PES 2009 so I cant compare them, but FIFA 09 is an excellent game and I will be playing it until 2010!!

Oh and at 22 now its a bargain!!

Just want to start off by saying that I'm not a fanboy of either franchise or something ridiculous like that. I play both Pes and Fifa and have been alternating between the both of them depending on their individual merits as each new release has come out.

So... I came to the Fifa 09, praying it was better than 07 ( which was horrendous) and more enjoyable than 08.
Verdict? Oh yes, Fifa are definitely back.

The game is fantastic from the moment I picked it up. From just exhibition, I could see the player movement and responsiveness has definitely had the tweak its been needing for so long. They turn better and the passes are fired off better. Personally, having played PES 09 as well, this outclasses it by leagues, the movement on PES still robotic and jerky, and they all run in exactly the same way.

We were told about new player physiques and they have stuck to it. Tackles are more rough now, with bigger players shoving and hustling their way round and it gives a sense of the real game, especially the huge amount of fun of sending small wing backs tumbling. Jumping in the air for the ball is also like this, with the taller and well built players more likely to get it.

Be a pro is where it really shines through. It was a little bit iffy in 08 but here in 09, well, its ridiculous. Its more fun, it takes more skill, and it responds better. The online ten on ten thing is great... if you play with a well organised group. Its already been said, but if you play with a bunch of mates you all want to have the ball the whole time trying score Maradonna goals, things are bound to get a little hectic. Online play is great with very little lag time (learn from this Konami) and its enjoyable rather than jaw clenchingly frustrating ( still talking to you Konami).

Overall, its hard to find any fault with this game, although maybe you can say that the refs are more rigid than a stick. It very, very difficult to get proper decisions go your way, but hey, hopefully Fifa'll sort that out next year.

So, I suppose 2009 goes to Fifa for a phenomenal game.

1 out of 5 stars Worse than 08   December 20, 2008

No fun, poor player movement, game just feels like 22 sprites moving around a green area chasing a small white object. Fifa 09 is poor to say the least and plays absolutely nothing like football. PES is still flawed but at least continues to play a decent game of footy, it's just insulting to the consumer to be expected to believe and take seriously the glowing reviews Fifa 09 has recieved in the gaming press. EA's maketing dept. has obviously spent big this year. Really EA, 08 was ok and despite being as shallow as all the previous Fifa games was a fun kickabout for a while, but 09 is awful on all fronts.
