4 out of 5 stars not all bad   November 29, 2008

i've played this game from release date (not Beta) and now have 3 lvl 80 characters and i have to say that i think a lot of the reviews are a little harsh (or just out dated). as always with mmos like this there are going to be teething problems early on. i agree with most that it was released way too early and still needed much work in the beta stages, pre-order codes not working etc, but....
for those of you who haven't played it at all or haven't for a while we are now really talking about a different class of game. lag, crashes, bugs are much reduced. (i played and loved wow from release date too and there are still issues with it to this day), there has been a lot of fine tuning in various aspects of the game too.
i bought a new pc for under 500 and it runs the game flawlessly with everyting maxed out. it very rarely crashes or lags out, memory leaks are a thing of the past. many problems users were facing must have been down to their hardware, isp (maximum patch time is <10mins on an average 2Mb broadband package).
so if you haven't played it or just played the dire version early on give it another go.
all in all i love it, no chance of returning to wow now!

I got this game ages ago near to release and overall I was very impressed especially with the combat. MMOs normally have a once-click attack system and the number keys are abilities. However in AoC you have to do all the swining yourself and you can choose which side to attack. Plus the combos are amazing when you pull them off and get a gore filled finishing move.

The graphics are amazing for those with high end PCs, yes there were some pop ins and glitches but the gameplay was so much fun that I just ignored them and enjoyed myself. The quests aren't really anything new, the only different aspect is that the map marks out where you have to go. It takes away some of the exploring but it's a nice feature.

For the first 20 levels you will only have access to Tortage, a small city filled with corruption. This gives new players a good starting point as you can be killed by anyone. As to my knowledge you cannot turn off player-vs-player. The bad side to this is that people don't come up to you asking to form a group so much as wanting to kill you but it makes for a refreshing experience. The first 20 levels go by really fast, before you reach Tortage you could be level 5.

Overall the game is worth a look but if you want a more polished feel then check out World Of Warcraft (a good MMO starting point) or even the new Warhammer Online which is really easy to get into and is amazing for player-vs-player. Age of Conan is a good game and I would say it's worth the buy and by now there have been patches so the experience may be much better than the one I had a few months back. My advice would be to buy it near christmas when new players will be online.

ok so laid out 60 on this game with a game card, only to find that it can't be loaded on any of our 2 pc's.one being windows vista the other windows xp.also there is no phone support you can only contact them by e-mail,but they do reply after a few hours to help you .which took about 4 days to find out that we can't play these games on our pc's.problem being as you are loading the game a problem starts then you have to contact them wait a few hours for a reply .then try what they tell you what to do only to find after solving one problem a another problem starts so you contact them again and again.tbh we never have this problem on wow at all.

I have no frame of reference as far as MMO's go, but I know good graphics (I use a 4850 and a 4500 @ 3.2GHz) and smooth gameplay and interesting content when I see it.

The age of Conan starts very well, the first 20 levels have the best gameplay of any MMORPG I have played.....

.....I will finish the review when Funcom finish the game.
