Amazon.co.uk Review
With a great price tag and a massive software library, the Sony PlayStation has been redesigned for the new millennium. Although the PlayStation is no longer the fastest machine on the market, it does boast the broadest selection of software. Some of the hottest console games available today have been created for the PlayStation, including several modern-day video gaming classics (Metal Gear Solid and Crash Bandicoot to name a few).

The Sony PlayStation truly shines with 3D-rendered action games, such as Tomb Raider and Spider-Man. These and other 3D-based titles place players in the middle of elaborate gaming environments that take full advantage of the system's ability to render up to 360,000 polygons per second. The PlayStation also has the capability to display 16.8 million colours simultaneously and can support full-frame video playback at 30 frames per second. In addition to impressive graphics, the PlayStation also offers CD-quality sound. Each PlayStation disc has the capacity to store up to 650 MB of data--significantly more information than can be stored on cartridge-based games. As an added bonus, the PlayStation will even play your favourite music CDs (accompanied by a selection of cool graphics). Additionally, the PlayStation now comes packed with Sony's impressive dual shock controller, which allows players to feel every punch, kick and rumble during gameplay. The controller features dual-analogue thumb joysticks and round rubber grips for improved game control and comfort. Separate accessories that could enhance the PlayStation experience include an additional controller--allowing two-player action--and a memory card so players can save their progress in a game. --Brett Atwood

5 out of 5 stars PSone Review   June 10, 2008
Cobra! (Glasgow, Scotland)
IMO This is the Best Thing I have EVER Got! Most Games Were Awesome!, Some Just OK, but none Bad That i've Heard Of!, Why Do People Always Bash the System Nowadays? It's Made it's Mark On History, It Has a Load of Great Games That Is Easy To Pick Up and Play, but It's Hard To Stop Playing, I even Found Myself Playing 12 Hours Strait, Sure It Can't Play DVDs o whatever usless things these Consoles Can Do These Days, But I think of the features a s bribe because the games suck, but that's My Opinion, The PS1 Didn't Need The features To Makt It fun, and if you buy one now adays, you should, and with 1200 PS1 Games Out There, It'll Take Decades To Get Bored, hell, the PS1 has more games than the PS2, The Only Downside is... Well... I can't think of any, Short Load Times, Graphics Only that System had, Great Gameplay, so yeah, buy it if intrested!

So, after buying this console i was firstly quite amazed at the size of it. Even after looking at numerous pictures of the ps1 i was still shocked at the dvd box sized contraption.
I think it should be also noted that the memory card DOES NOT come with the system. The memory card enables you to save your progress on the individual games, and quite rightly, some may assume it does come with the console, 'fraid not. Luckily its going for 3- 5 on amazon so its not an expensive addition.

My PS2 is great. Good games, good graphics and it was my first DVD player. The only thing it lacks is GREAT games. PS1 has dozens. Crash, Spyro, FFVII, Metal Gear Solid and Gran Turismo 2 to name but a few.
PS2 has sequels to all these games but none of them play quite as well or feel the same. PS1 feel good to play and lets all face it 4-player hogs of war is perfect.

4 out of 5 stars A good console at a great price.   February 27, 2006

For those of you who used to own the original Playstation but, like me yours mysteriously stopped working when it was stepped on by an unbelieveably foolish visitor, this is a must have. A classic console, this slimline version looks so nice and is so compact that you can literally put it anywhere. I'd also like to point out to gxay that the Gamecube (while being the greatest console ever) is a generation ahead of the PSOne and so the two should not be compared. This console is great for fans of the classics, as a Nintendo fan through and through I don't own that many games, but Final Fantasy VII, VIII and IX are timeless classics that no one can resist.
