Amazon.co.uk Review Plastic icon Barbie stars in this playful game, which enables gamers to ride horseback on five different nature trails filled with various obstacles. Each trail is peppered with lightweight challenges (such as jumping over an occasional log or stream). There are also a few surprises that you will encounter on the various trails, including some mini-arcade games that are triggered by certain events. As you move through each trail, the game takes an unusual first-person perspective that shows your view from atop the horse. Game environments include a snowy mountain path, a grassy meadow and a warm beach. The pre-rendered animation is fairly smooth and colourful but controlling the moves of your horse can be a bit awkward. This game is designed to be compatible with Sony's dual shock controllers, which allow players to feel each bump and rumble. As you might expect from any licensed Barbie game, this title is designed to appeal to young girls. While there is plenty of pleasant eye candy for beginning gamers, this game clearly encourages players to engage in low-stress fun that requires little hand-eye co-ordination. Instead, Barbie Race & Ride is more about exploration and, in some cases, adventure. The game does reward persistent players with access to a much-fabled "secret ranch". For gamers that want to take a break from the saddle, there is an opportunity to wash and groom your horse in the barn. Barbie Race & Ride succeeds in offering a friendly, non-violent exploration environment for beginning gamers. Older brothers, beware! --Brett Atwood Pros: - Race with a friend in 2-player competition mode
- Colourful trails and happy environments

Fun for little kids August 12, 2006 Ms. Monique Philpott (Tibenham, Norfolk) Comsidering how much money it is - i wouldnt buy it! Basically you choose a horse - after barbie rambling on about the fact that "they love to race" in her annoying - everything is wonderful voice. You have to undergo a painful riding lesson before you can "hit the trails" as barbie says, then you can choose out of the beach, forest, meadow and mountains. There are little games to do throughout. Overall its a joke to play if you are over 7, and otherwise, its a good little game to play when you're bored. It takes an hour to complete but honestly - its nice for little pony lovers.
FAT AND PLUMP WHAT A DUMP! May 19, 2004 3 out of 6 found this review helpful
This game has the worst gra[hics i have ever seen! EVER! And i have seen alot. The horses are short and fat. And barbie has packed on a few hundred pounds too! Also don't let the words 'two player' fool you, oh no! You might think "My daughter can play on it with her friends" Well unless she wants to race across a meadow over and over again on a fat dodo then be my guest and buy it.
Barbie Race and Ride is Ideal for the Little Ones September 12, 2000 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
Want to keep your pre-teens busy for a couple of hours? Get them this game. Barbie Race and Ride offers two main things; it's educational and is an ideal way to get your little ones used to how the buttons on a Playstation control pad work, and secondly, it has some interesting puzzles hidden in there for your kiddies to solve. Essentially a "ride 'em up" game, you pick your horse from a choice of 4, name it, saddle up and get on out there. You can race against Barbie's friends on their horses, solve jigsaws, play tetris like games, complete timed courses complete with jumps, and do a bit of exploring too; all of these are main gameplay elements that you find in other games for the Playstation, and this game teaches them well. At this price, it's a bargain too, it originally launched at around a pony, if you'll excuse the pun! I would suggest that this game is aimed at any little Barbie or pony fans out there who are interested in the Playstation but can never find a game to suit them, or can't get access to it because their brother is busy blasting aliens, so get them this. A great introduction to gaming and how to look after a pony.
