| Customer Reviews:
The only commercial PS1 demo compilation... September 25, 2006 AJ McGill OK, first of all, 'Power Source' is not a game but a 'sampler disc'. It was released in 1997 as a fund raiser for The Prince's Trust (selling for 4.99 at the time). As such, and with it having Sony's backing, it managed some pretty good demos... First of all, there's the classic Tomb Raider - the only PS1 demo of this game! As well as some common racers (Porsche Challenge, Destruction Derby 2 and Monster Trucks), there are also some rarities. Spider is a great 2D platformer, Exhumed is a rare 1st person cross between Doom and Tomb Raider, Excalibur is a decent 3D adventure game, Riot is a brutal sports sim from Psygnosis (VERY rare) and Robotron X is a great update of the classic Williams arcade game. As well as the demos, there is a full Net Yaroze game called Snave and videos including the classic promo film 'Blown Away' (play spot the game!). So... is it worth buying? Well if you want a taste of some of the best or rarest early PS1 games, yes. More importantly, it is a great item for PS1 collectors... not only is it the only commercial PS1 sampler disc, it was the only official Sony release (not counting rental issues!) to use the Amaray case (with PlayStation logo inside rather than Ameray or Blockbuster etc). It also manages to put itself in the top 5% reviewed games in the entire history of PS1! The PlayStation Database (collecting all professional review scores) has it ranked 39th best PS1 game of all time! I bought it with my first PlayStation console back in 1997 and as well as inspiring me to buy 6 of the featured games, I still play it every now and again... the 'Blown Away' promo still looks good!
