vvvwwrrrruUUUMMMMmmmm!!! September 3, 2008 Dan Morgan-kane (U.K.) I'll keep this short. Ridge Racer 2 on the PSP is a fantastic game. I don't own the first one, but apparently there's not much new for those who've got it. I, however, find this to be an exhilarating, bouncing 3am trip. It's all about the flow, and making your sense go, 'woah'. I love the arcade-styled gameplay; sliding in and out of corners, nitrous-blasting my way past opponents whilst the summer-beach commentator gets all excited. I love how it's all a big festival, graphically immpresive and that so much is going on around you. I love the unbelievably encapsulating soundtrack that you could just as likely find in a club or in a young man's Peugeot 205 as he makes sure that everyone can hear it except him since he's deaf from listening to the previous game's music. I give this game four stars because of its' apparent lack of progress from the first game, and that because I find the presence of the invisible walls to be a flaw. But Ridge Racer 2 is a fantastic, festival joyride that makes you the star of the show. Too many times in commerce, a product has been built up to be more than it is; and whilst it wasn't quite adrenaline-fuelled, Ridge Racer 2 is a very exciting game; great job Namco!
BEST RACING GAME EVER March 25, 2007 Joeeeeee 8 out of 10 found this review helpful
Ridge Racer 2 is a great racing game, from power sliding round corners to going at 500 kmh! It has loads of different cars, some special cars too which look pretty snazy! The music is fab. I know the songs almost off by heart after only a month! The graphics look real life, and look amazing in the night scenes. It is not too hard or easy either, though it gets a lot harder through the levels. My friends find this game wicked aswell, and they usually find these sort of games a bore. Anyone who is looking for a fun, thrilling racing game, here it is. I can only give praise for this game as it is so great!
Rail Racer not Ridge Racer February 22, 2007 daytripper (killearn) 3 out of 9 found this review helpful
well first off the graphics are good. Only problem i've seen is the dark levels. the psp screens not very good at representing black scenes as theres too much artifacts(trail of black after object is passed). the music really stinks i know halo and zelda won awards for music and that there the best. but the music in this sounds like a high voltage wires been jammed in a systhesiser and the speratic noises that come out have been recored. Come on people cant we follow in the footsteps of EA and get real music instead of the horrid nes music? So theres a tonne of cars. they all handle the same and you wont notice that there different. tracks are fun. Now handling. sorry to say it but this is rail racer. the aim of the game is to get a power slide going to get round corners. nice idea but when you do that the game helps out way too much. its like you've been fasted to rails when this happens. so no spinning out or sliding into the wall. in fact you cant get a power slide with the car facing left to go round a right handed corner. this seams to get worse as the courses get more tighter and the cars more faster and prone to skid. also you can get the car going faster sideways on a straight than the computer can go facing forward?!?!? this is the first driving game ive had on the psp and control wise im a bit disappointed. but this game is fun for a quick blast and worth a play even after all them faults probably not worth top buck thought. find it in the bargain bin.
A great second run! December 18, 2006 Erik Meyer (Glasgow, UK) 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
After having played the first Ridge Racer on the PSP I bought the second one in the series and so far nothing has really dissappointed me. The game continues in the footsteps of the original, same controls, same feel and, unfortanetely this is the only bad thing I can say about the game. The graphics are amazing, some levels such as the ones at night look amazing and the scenery feels alive with birds flying, boats, airplanes and such all alive in the scenery as you whizz by with over 200kmh. The main game is built around the "World Tour mode", a series of cups stretching over an average of 4 laps each, as you finish each series it gets more difficult. Everytime you finish a cup, more stuff is unlocked, it can be everything from new tracks to cars, even extra movie sequences. A cup is constructed so that in each race you have to reach a higher position, first lap is usually 3rd, last lap is 1st. The music in the game is a techno/trance/house soundtrack, I usually don't enjoy this type of music, but it works great in the game and helps the overall feel of this arcade racer. Controls are very simple and after the first lap you essentially know all you need in order to just play and enjoy. Now, regarding my complaint earlier, there isn't really that big a difference between the first Ridge Racer and the second, more cars are there, a couple more levels but the overall feel is the exact same. The soundtrack is the same, cars are the same, same levels etc. But the game is still great, if you didn't pick up the first game, try this one.
It's RR1 with a few extras....not a happy bunny October 31, 2006 Grumpy_Grumpz (UK, London) 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
If you've NOT got Ridge Racer(1)for the PSP then get it, its a great game. This would have been a 5, BUT.... If you've ALREADY got Ridge Racer (1) for the PSP, then like me, when you get this, (probably) you can't help but be disappointed. This is an early review, only had it 2 days, but initial thoughts are ITS THE SAME GAME! the tracks and graphics (so far) are the same, nearly all the music is the same, the voice overs are the same, the menu graphics..the cut scenes, sounds..etc. I think it has more other extra 'features' (like other game types) than RR1, (i've not compared yet), whilst its a GREAT game, (because RR1 is), it feels like a waste of money for me as when playing as its the same! for a second i had to check i didn't load RR1 by mistake! i wished i'd not impluse bought this.
