The Command & Conquer games helped to kick start the real-time strategy genre back in the `90s and now finally this sequel is here to breathe new life into what was an idea that seemed to get old long before its time. As the final part of the Tiberium trilogy the good guy GDI and evil Brotherhood of Nod are facing off once again, this time with a third faction of aliens added to the mix. This being Command & Conquer that means lots of cheesy but enjoyable live action cut scenes featuring past their sell by date Sci-Fi actors (Billy Dee Williams, Michael Ironside and two of the women from the new Battlestar Galactica in this case). Fan favourite Joseph D. Kucan as Kane also returns.

Naturally the graphics have been improved immensely from the last game, with tanks kicking up dust in their passing and larger explosions causing huge craters in the landscape. The artificial intelligence has also been enhanced with expert path-finding for all units and a computer opponent that adjusts its playing style to the pace of game you prefer. Individual units are also far more intelligent than before, with several levels of awareness and aggression - as well as a willingness to actually retreat when under fire instead of just sitting there and taking it. Much has also been done to decrease the effectiveness of the infamous tank rush tactics, with flanking and other manoeuvres now paramount. Accessibility is still key to the gameplay though and if any game can make real-time strategy games popular again with the general public, this is it.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Game   October 29, 2008
Sood (UK)
I bought this when it first came out around 30 something and well worth every penny, at 10 (at the time of writing) an excellent bargain for christmas.
* great RTS game for series fans and newcomers alike
* great campaign features a ton of quality full-motion video
* Fast-paced gameplay is fun and exhilarating
* Scrin race is a fantastic, balanced addition to the C&C universe
* Multiplayer is awesome
* BattleCast turns the thrilling multiplayer into a spectator sport.
Having played all the previous C & C games I found the AI to be much better as well.

Build up base, build strongest unit x 20, rush enemy base, use tactic for every mission.

5 out of 5 stars Super!!   May 30, 2008

A great all round game and one for all CnC fans.

What i liked most was the incremental difficulty of each mission. Trust me that in later missions you will be forced to exercise the grey matter in order to win, especially when fighting as the alien. Which brings me onto my next point, excellent value for money. There were quite a lot of missions and all posed a different challenge. Trust me its a must have for the CnC fan.

1 out of 5 stars Just another poorly thought game.   April 15, 2008

Command and Conquer 3 has potential but falls flat on its face instead. First off, the story is great, and the idea of using live action sequences is good even if it comes across corney. Down to the gameplay. First of all its the basic build a base, gather resources and build large armies, thankfully there is no limit what so ever to how many buildings or units you want although the resources avaliable will limit that. (the resources 'respawn' over small periods of times so its a waiting game in the end)

The gameplay was alright for the GDI vs NOD missions...but when the SCRIN came in... this got pathetic. My base was constantly (about 5 seconds after the last enemy was killed) attacked by aircraft which would shoot half way across the map. (slight exaduation but my base defences would never fire on the enemy ships since they were always out of range)

So i can not build bases without losing half the base in one single attack. The second stupidest thing i witness was that the enemy have portals... where limitless units can 'spawn' instantly, this meant that the enemy had at least 150 units if not more (excludes airships) and i had ...5 troop units. There were so many units present that the minimap was pure purple and the screen was a sea of moving creatures.
My resources became depleeted within minutes since every unit i built would be destroyed the second it came out of the factory. Truely pathetic. So i gave up...not worth my attention nor time. If you want a game which has surpassed a challenge and is just plain wasting your time then buy it but for this amount of money still not worth it.

I gave it 3 starts because in skirmish mode, where the enemies have no advantage over your at first you can build good bases, and the second star is for the limitless units even for the enemy aslong as you have the ability to match which the game clearly does not want you to have in campaign mode. The third star is for the live action sequences. Having the General who is Rico's school teacher from starship troopers, and 'Boomer' from Battlestar Galactica, even though they are not proper actors its still nice to see a little filming in games instead of CGI and graphical representations of people all the time.

hope you liked the review have have chosen NOT to buy this game...unless you play to use cheats of some kind to give yourself the upper hand.

I loved the command and conquer series, so was excited about this game. I wasn't dissapointed, however it did feel like the 'same old thing'. I was addicted instantly, and played it through twice. Money well spent!
