underrated - if you like FPS this is for you September 7, 2008 megamarble (South Yorks, UK) a good enjoyable game that kept my interest. the combination of glaive and pistols made decision making an important part of the game. Some of the baddies were interesting and i particularly liked the puzzle element to the game. i'm currently on chapter 7 and i believe there are approx 9 and for me, this game is definiely long enough. i should also add this game is NOT for kids. I won't even let my 10 year old be in the same room when i play it. On the whole I was surprised by how good this game was and if you like shooters it is definitely recommended
the Trailer was promising September 3, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
well the trailer was great, the idea was good and the product was rubbish. Whoever created the trailers is well worth their money but the game fails on every level. Gameplay is boring, the enemy soldiers look embarrassing, the weapons are pants, the controls for the weapons are shocking and lol! it has multiplayer!! which is so so so embarrassing! sorry for you fan boys but this game really let me down
Great Game August 10, 2008 Mr. Steven R. Walker (Peterborugh, England) I bought this game over 3 months ago and forgot to post a review, so here it is, my review, Dark Sector has been made using the gears of war system so the view of witch you play is the same and the darkness of the game is the same too, the campaign in Dark Sector is good with 10 levels to go through, after each level it gets harder and each level gets longer, but you unlock special abilities within your character to overcome these foes. Well i wont spoil the game, it is great fun but you can get stuck some time, therefore having to look up a walkthough. but other than that IT IS GREAT. The online is good as well, but as not almost of people play this game online, you very often see the same names pop up in every game you play. Overall 9/10 as nothing can be perfect.
A triumph for combat over story May 31, 2008 I. Lehnert (Derby/Blackburn, UK) Dark Sector is a funny old game. Playing as a secret opps agent called Hayden Tenno, you're sent to a Russian state on one final mission, but are infected with a deadly virus that has been ravaging the locals. Somehow, it has served to make you stronger, including metalising your body and giving you a triple bladed boomerang potruding from your hand called a glaive. Your basic quest is to shoot and slash your way through the story, separating as many limbs from your enmies as possible and causing as much destruction as you can along the way. There's no need to go too much in depth with the story, because it really isnt all that great. It never fully explores itself, presenting characters you dont need to care about and often leaving you alone for a few hours before popping up with a random cut scene, giving a quite disjointed feel. Yet Dark Sector still has enough going for it. Besides the fact that throwing your glaive at enemies in the hope of causing decapitations and lacerations never gets old, the combat system is fairly challenging, with a few fairly tricky boss battles. It utilises a Gears of War style point-and-shoot-from-cover system, which might sound dull but suits the game well. Also, the game's atmosphere is constantly thick and delciously bleak, and at times really can grab you. Coupled with a host of tricky enemies, the game presents a fairly balanced challenge. On the whole, Dark Sector is worth its asking price for the glaive and all its harrowing possibilities. The developer's do need a few more lessons on telling a story, because a fairly promising premise was ruined with poor implementation here. That said, the combat and atmoshpherics were more than enough to see me through to the game's end. An unbalanced treat.
brilliant but flawed! May 30, 2008 GREYFOX at first, i never knew this game existed until it slowly creped up and announced itself! seeing the videos for it got me interested but i was still unsure as whether to buy it or not however i was not completely disappointed when i eventually made the purchase! the gameplay, graphics and sounds are awesome with the glaive sounds truly spectacular but the story was badly produced however i feel that the story could have been improved. it does however has it fair share of flaws i.e. leaning against walls, peeking round corners? , bodies in the air and so on however an excellent game with interesting features. hopefully the potential sequel will have fixed all the bugs and has a better story behind it with new features and abilities.
