5 out of 5 stars Let's Hit The Waves Dude!   November 23, 2008
Mrs. Dawnc Alexandre (Jersey (CI))
Surf's Up is a video game based on the film released around the summer of 2007! The film became a very popular hit and was apparently 2nd place to be one of the best films of 2007, beaten by "The Simpsons Movie".

As the name says, the game is based on a surfing style game set at the annual "Reggie Belafonte Big Z Memorial Surf Off" as seen in the film. Players choose from one of 10 characters from the film to play as, and will experience various spots on Pen Gu Island, from North Beach, to the Boneyards, as well as Cody's home of Shiverpool as they progress in the contest.
The players are given a set of objectives to meet in each match. These include finding and collecting a set number of trophies scattered throughout the level, gaining points from performing tricks whist surfing, and manoeuvring through large gates. Some certain courses have a large wave on either the left or right side of the screen that follows the player throughout, allowing the surfer to perform a corkscrew trick to gain a boost of speed.
As you progress and collect the needed goals, you'll unlock new characters, as well as videos, artwork, and in-game shorts from SPEN featuring Sal, the walrus announcer. XBox 360 Players will also unlock achievements from completing tasks as well!
The XBox 360 Version of the game has 29 Achievements in total with a total of 1000G Gamerscore Points! All the achievements are offline so you can earn all the achievements whether you have XBox Live or not!

My Personal Game Score: 9/10: Smashing, Groovy, Wonderful

My Wish: Some XBox Live competition would be nice and be a bit of laugh! Its camera angles are a bit weak too!

Final Comments: Surf's Up is probably one of the best easy retail games I've done so far along with Cars & King Kong! If you're after a game with easy achievements or even something for your children to have a laugh at, then look no further than the video game of Surf's Up!

Here's my Gamer-Tag if you have any Surfing Surf's Up Questions! Although I am not a surfer, hehe!

3 out of 5 stars Don't write it off as just for kids!!!   January 15, 2008

This is a very very short game. You can complete it in one evening. That said - it'll be a fun evening!! The graphics are nice, the gameplay is really fun and easy to pick up. You can surf in your own style and there are loads to choose from such as hold tricks, freestyle, advanced, floater tricks, basic tricks... and more. Loved it!!!If there were more courses I could have played it quite happily for weeks. As it was however, I have 1000 gamerpoints in an evening. Don't pay full price for it - but do buy it!!

4 out of 5 stars Quite fun, actually...   August 6, 2007

Sometimes we come across good surprises, and Surf's Up for the 360 is one of those. It's a "light-hearted" Tony Hawk a-like game, that plays surprisingly well. Its graphics are big and bright, and funny (well, how much can a skiny surfin chicken be ? a lot, I tell you). Controls are responsive and much faster to learn than its older "brothers". Difficulty is low but not too much, perfect for a lazy hot Sunday.
One minus word for the "jokes department" - their lame, and almost lack any fun - with these exotic characters I was surprised creators delivered a story so poor (or inexistant), and cut-scenes that aren't funny at all (good techinacally, though).
All in all it deserves its actual price.
