nhl gets better each year the players look so real and the graphics are top notch good fun and a serious sports contender for this years franchise.
Another outstanding effort in the NHL series November 28, 2007 Graham Simons (UK) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
Of all the sports that EA has turned its hand to over the last decade or so, hockey has probably been the one they have translated best from real life to the virtual world. Yet again, this year's version looks stunning and plays just as well. The graphics, as you would expect from an Xbox 360 game, are gloriously sharp. The shimmer of the ice, the detail of the jerseys and the lighting effects at the arenas are all captured superbly. EA have also mastered the gameplay for what is a fast-paced and, at times, chaotic sport. The players skate very smoothly and their responsiveness to the controls is excellent. The "skill stick" allows you to pass, shoot and deke, but for all those who grew up with the "classic, button-press" NHL controls it is still possible to switch back to them. There's the full range of game modes you would expect, from dynasty down to quick play and a world tournament. You can also create individual skaters, goalies and teams. The 2007-08 RBK Edge uniforms are initially locked, but the code to release them is available on EA's NHL 08 homepage - quite why they have done this I'm not sure, but it's a minor issue that takes two minutes to sort out. Perhaps the aspect NHL games have always been so far ahead of others in is the commentary and, yet again, Gary Thorne and Bill Clement provide a wide range, that is not overly repetitive and often a pleasure to listen to. A worthwhile purchase for hockey fans, or anyone looking for a fun sports sim (Note for all those interested in achievement points: a lot of them are quite difficult and take some time to get, although there are a few simple ones).
Absolutely GREAT!! September 21, 2007 M. Kim (London) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
I'm a huge fan of ice hockey and NHL series is definately one of my favourite game. In terms of the graphics and presentation, it's great. Most of the players faces look very realistic and you can even see all the stitches on the shirts. Gameplay is great and I'm sure you won't get bored with it after a while because AI is much higher and more competitive. but IF you get bored with the game, you can always swich to 'golie mode' which gives you choices to make different saves (eg. diving save) Practice mode is great too, helping you to master different aspects of the game. In creation mode, you can choose different brands of equipment for your player and while you are creating a player, you can always test out the equipments you've chosen. However, the only down side is that you cannot create player's face in detail like in Tigerwoods 08. (You can only choose from 'ready made' faces). To unlock the RBK Edge uniform for nhl teams, you will need to go to NHL 08 website which will tell you the code to unlock. Overall, it is AMAZING game and I think every penny is worth it.
Demo seems good though Amazon have the wrong box art. EA won't be happy. September 12, 2007 Zico 0 out of 9 found this review helpful
Always like a bash at NHL on the good old Mega Drive back in the days. Demo played ok on the 360 so I might be picking this up later. Hope Amazon get the right picture up though before EA find out though :D.
