Could have been better September 29, 2008 R. Stocker (Bristol) At first glance this looks a very good game. Lots of options, good achievements, and unique captain your country mode to boot. But after playing my first tournament with england I won it on pro difficulty so straight away I had to question the difficulty level. Was it enjoyable? yes to a certain extent it ws, amazing graphics and attention to detail is incredible. Commentary is probably the best of any football game on any console EVER. It really is superb. Some good scrambles in the 18 yard box and fantastic fan detail and singing. But is it as enjoyable as Konamis, admittedly, declining PES game. I would still say no. EA's game beats PES for graphics, options, detail, commentary, kits, licenses etc etc and all theses things are important, but it still cant compete in the realism stakes. Tackling can be infuriating in Euro 2008 and the shooting system is all at sea at times. Passing short distances is OK but try a long raking ball and it can go basically anywhere it wants. Whereas PES 2008 has awesome playability and some fantastic, close and entertaining games can be had from this. The captain your county mode from Euro 2008 is refreshing and good for a while, but gets laboured and repetetive after a while and all you end up doing after a while is calling for the ball no matter how far away you are just so you can play which begs the question, why not just play a normal game controlling everyone. In summary, its a fun game with some good new ideas and if avialble cheap worth a punt, but between this and Pro eVO, STILL HAS TO BE kONAMI FOR ME!!!
Not quite the finished article August 10, 2008 WJMardell (Wales) I bought this game on the recommendation of a friend, which turned that he slightly oversold it a bit. While playing for the first time, I thought, yes this is a very good game and I would've recommended it above any other football game on the 360. However, upon looking deeper into it, there are many glitches that let the overall game slide, such as a flickering football pitch during substitutions, about 3 different manager reactions that you'll see again and again, and so on. All of these add up to a game that looks rushed to meet the deadline without taking care to polish it all off. I have to say though that the "Captain your Country" mode of play is definitely the piece de resistance of the game. It will keep you coming back for more every time, when you've finished doing it as, say, a striker, try coming back and doing it again as a defender. And it is the part of the game that will keep you hooked for as long as it takes. The other, slightly less addictive section is the Scenario section, where you attempt to relive or change footballing history through classic matches from yesteryear. Overall, this is indeed a good game. It's just not THAT good, especially for this price ( 30). Wait for a bit, or dare I say it, choose another game until this one comes down in price.
Strange at first but a massive grower. July 2, 2008 CR78 (Manchester UK) Let me start off by saying that I used to hate all the FIFA games since FIFA 98 (Road to World Cup) and was a massive, massive PES fan. Every year I'd drool over the latest PES and play it to death until the next version came out. This continued all the way up to PES 2008 which I found to be absolutely shocking. My how things have changed. FIFA 08 actually blows PES away on gameplay now aswell as having all the squads, kits and bells & whistles that EA have always had. Anyway, EURO 2008. I wanted to start off by saying how FIFA 08 is the best football game around on any console just to let people know my feelings on the franchise as a whole. After hammering FIFA 08 since I got it, I raised an eyebrow at Euro 2008. Of course I knew EA would throw out another cash-in for the tournament, but I figured I'd take a look anyway. The demo on XBox Live is kinda ok but isn't really the best example to go off. When I first played I have to admit I was pretty dissapointed that the gameplay and camera views have been changed since FIFA 08 as to me that was already brilliant as it was. However props to EA for at least making significant changes to the game rather than throwing out FIFA 08 with Euro teams at full price. After giving the full game a shot and having now played a few games I must say it's an excellent game. Is it better than FIFA 08? Well I'm not sure on that. It's as good for enjoyment value and of course if you want the full Euro tournament game with the better player faces and manager faces etc then you need this game. Overall I couldn't say choose either as both are excellent games in their own right and can be enjoyed together. Normally I'm against companies cashing in and I've voiced my discontent about EA several times in the past years, but this time around I do think if you're a fan of football and both club and international competitions then you need both games. The gameplay in Euro 2008 is different from FIFA 08. I wouldn't say it's better but also it's definitely not worse. It's a very fun game to play, very involving and has all the tournament fancy stuff like you'd expect. I definitely advise trying to rent or borrow the game rather than just going off the demo on Live as it's much more fun when you sit down and play the game properly a few times. Plus Points: Excellent graphics and presentation, great game engine again and a wealth of European teams to take to Euro 2008 Negatives: No Netherlands players again (wrong names) and the same goes for Wales for some reason too. Definitely worth investing in. Let's hope FIFA 09 is just as good as these or even better.
Good, could be better. June 27, 2008 MagyarMatt (UK) Ok here's the deal, yes it has some very good gameplay nice tricks you can do and I love the way you can choose how you celebrate a goal. The only downside is they don't seem to have all the licensing for the teams. i.e check out the names of the Dutch players. But for me by far and away the most annoying aspect of this game is on-line play. I am a casual gamer and don't spend 7 hours + a day playing this!! Yet whenever I set up an on-line game and try to play players who are supposed to be my skill level I nearly always end up playing against players who are miles better, the whole experience on line is just frustrating beyond belief!!
worst football game of last 5 years June 26, 2008 J. R. Longmate (Derby United Kingdom) 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
hi, this is an awful game and would not reccomend it to anyone unless you are after the achievements. the glitches are annoying as hell but mostly just downright laughable. for example i kicked the ball towards the touchline it was intercepted by a ghost aparently who then crossed it in and the ball was neatly finished by casper him self. i found this very annoying aand the button delay is ridicolous, you press pass and then by the time the player responds it is past the opportunity, i would not pay good m oney for this game, its plain and simple awful. rushed out with glitches galore!!! fifa 08 anyone??
