This is a great game. One huge problem. It seems once you reach a certain number of laps run, the system locks up your profile and you cannot restart game. I have lost my profile and all of my achievements twice. Once I started looking into the problem I found several web sites where many people have experienced the same problem. Initially I thought my hard drive was the problem, but I have no problems with any other games. There is a major flaw with this game that EA sports does not appear to be doing anything about! DO NOT BUY THIS GAME!

Before I get going: this game is a faithful simulation of the 2008 NASCAR season. NASCAR races, with a couple of exceptions, take place on ovals, so to criticise the game because the idea of racing on ovals doesn't appeal to you is, to say the very least of it, curious. Not into turning left a lot? Move on, this isn't for you.
If you are into turning left, though, NASCAR 09 is a cracking racer. Graphically it's not Gran Turismo, but then NASCAR 09 is displaying 43 cars at a time and does a very good job of that. There's no slowdown, some excellent spot effects and the lighting, particularly as the sun sets (the sun moves through the sky as you race, so even in a day race the shadows will lengthen) is generally excellent. The twitchy controls and hugely aggressive AI of NASCAR 08 are gone, and in their place are much more precise steering, throttle and brake inputs and AI that races, for the most part, cleanly and fairly.
Wrinkles? As other reviewers have said, the game is incompatible with the US release, so no racing the Americans online, which is ridiculous when you consider where NASCAR races. The road course AI has hotspots on each track where it'll cause a caution every couple of laps (the downloadable Montreal being an especially trying exercise in frustration), and there are a couple of tracks where you'll be unbeatable once you've got somewhere close to maxing out the performance points you can apply to your car. In spite of that, NASCAR 09 is worth at least a rental for most, and should be an instant buy for those with a real interest in US motorsport.

Bought this game on the spur of the moment.
I am heavily into motor sport and regularly play various PS3 and Xbox 360 racing titles.
This game is by far the worst racing game I have ever seen.
The textures, lighting etc look about 10 years out of date...its just all so very wrong.
The sense of speed is non existant and going round in circles constantly is very boring.
Couldnt even race against americans online as us UK people can obly race against other Europeans.
A total ripp off and complete waste of money

Nascar 09 is an amazing racing experience. Much improved from last years game, better graphics, car handling and AI, The only drawback is the fact that you can't play online with our american friends only europeans and being not as popular in europe as it is in america its kinda hard to find online races..

i bought this game because i thought you would be able to race people on line from usa.This is not the case you can only play people online from europe,what a missed option from EA again.The single player game is good, if you are a nascar fan.if not stick to grid.i shall be selling my copy of nascar09,as i went online tonight at 7:45pm there was 3 people racing online.
