4 out of 5 stars The "King" of all wrestling games is here!   September 13, 2007
Mr. Gerard Mcnamara (Hungary)
What a great wrestling game! Now I'm not saying its a perfect game.... it certainly has one or two stupid bugs but this game has so much to offer. Whether or not you are a wrestling fan this game has a lot to make it attractive for several weeks off hard playing.

Firstly the roster of stars is great and it is a nice touch that you can "unlock" legendary stars such as Hulk Hogan, The Rock etc. Also you can create your own superstar and this is fantastic, everything from height, weight, skin tone, tattoos and much more can go into making you superstar with of course their own special set of wrestling moves. With fight experience your superstar improves and will eventually challenge for a title match!

The fights themselves are very varied with at least 12 - 16 match types, wrestlers having different styles, strenghts and weaknesses. The moves will take some time to master but then this makes the game more enjoyable and challenging.

The season mode is fun if limited and is a good way to get involved in the "story side" of wrestling. It is also a greta way of improving your wrestling skills. Although the story is pretty simple it is still entertaining.

If you like wrestling then this game will knock you down and pin you for a three count!

4 out of 5 stars Very good, but not perfect   June 19, 2007

This games is actually good once you get into it.

I want to talk about the cons first because I consider them quite major.

This game loads like a Playstation game (long), it can get annoying.

More importantly though, when this game was developed, I think they forgot people might play it, who have never actually played a "Smackdown vs Raw" game before, especially since this is the first one for an Xbox branded console. So what I really found frustrating is that this game more than any other previous WWE game, was the lack of a practice and tutorial mode.

A tutorial mode such as the one featured in the "WWE Day or Reckoning" games on the GameCube would have been perfect.

Even the instruction book is mostly catered to those who have played a previous version.

There is so much to learn, to the point where after playing one and a half way through the season mode, I am still discovering new controls, moves and tactics.

While I like deciding upon my own in ring tactics, I don't appreciate having to learn so many controls without help.

If you're a casual gamer like me, this will frustrate. I don't think I can really put into words how much a tutorial mode was needed in this.

Other than this, the problems are a bit minor. Such as: there could be more wrestlers and for some reason you can't use WWE Legends (unlocked wrestlers, such as Bret Hart) in season mode.

On the plus side some of the modes are really good, the graphics are great and it flows quite well, but leads to button bashing when your being attacked or your on the ground trying to recover.

Steel Cage matches are as frustrating as in every wrestling game.

Money in the bank matches (6 man ladder match) while initially quite good, turns into a real struggle and can take 30min or more for someone to win.

Royal Rumble isn't that fun, its just a survival/struggle match.

And my God the referee is always in the way, can't he stand back a bit.

These are just a few matches though.

It's not clear how to win these matches at first (going back to my lack of tutorial or practice complaint).

I have been playing this for over a week solid play, still enjoying it for the most part, once you have learnt it though it's worth it.

But initially its so overwhelming, having to learn the moves customizing everything from your locker room (which is cool) to options and create character mode is quite vast and can be over complicated.

It's almost impossible to review this with out writing forever. I haven't even touched the online mode or create a belt mode for that reason and I only scraped the surface in the "create a character" mode.

So is it worth it? Yes it is, right now it's the best wresting game out there. But don't expect an easy play, only if you are willing to give it time.

For all you who know what im talking about, is it better than the legendary N64 No Mercy in terms of gameplay? erm it comes very close, but it isn't quite as satisfying, and my God did I play that to death. This isn't quite as balanced and doesn't flow quite as well. It's still more about winning than actually taking your time in ring.

The presentation is flawless and watching the entrance to Bret Hart and Hulk Hogan (old school before he made himself look silly) makes you feel nostalgic about WWF in the old days when we were kids.

5 out of 5 stars WWE SMACKDOWN vs. RAW 2007   June 2, 2007

This was the first game i had bought on the 360. Id seen reviews of it and looked on here for the trailer. I was not disappointed with what was presented to when i first played it. The current roster was all intact but with a notable absence of Jeff Hardy, a minor issue not worth the hassle none the less. The create your own character was a good highlight with plenty of options to fine tune your own wresler down to what underwear he has on ! The graphics are very good with the sweat and blood details, and the wrestling moves list is huge. The career mode is good as well with plenty of varied storylines and lots of opportunities to mix it up with the big boys of the wwe. There are loads of unlockable legends on there inlcluding Eddie Guerrero (R.I.P.) Hulk Hogan and Dusty Rhodes. The control system took a little while to get used to so i cud perform the better moves but the learning curve on it like this is fine as you get used to certain opponents moves so oyu can counter them. The crowd interaction part is good adding to the atmosphere of the whole show and the outside the ring fighting is good to. Overall its good fun to play and keep going with the career mode, but it is best not to do a marathon session on it as the play can get a bit monotonous so detracting from the fun you get from it. But there is still plenty of time to unlock all of the extra stuff anyway. Just dont get to into it thats all if you lose a fair bit to begin with it does get better !

5 out of 5 stars Near Perfect.(and a message 2 the guy below me!)   April 25, 2007

Im not entirely sure where the reviewer below me got his copy but I have experienced no bugs whatsoever in this game despite playin it 2 death!AND the part where he exclaims that the loading screen appears after a 2 count IS SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN!ITS PART OF THE STORY LINE IN SEASON MODE!Oh, and my version of HHH clearly holds a water bottle!
Anyway......this game is as close to wrestling as a game has ever been. The graphics are spot on, right down to the glint in HHHs eyes durin his entrance. the gameplay is slower than previous years due 2 the new control system, which gives u far more freedom in what u want to do. The line up of legends is good to inc the 3 faces of foley, Tazz, piper, shane, the hart foundation, hogan etc, although personally most important to me is Stone Cold, complete with his smokin skull champions belt!A great game which is now available at some bargain prices. GET IT!
