5 out of 5 stars EXCITED!   September 29, 2007

Right thing is im getting an xbox 360 and some games to go with it for christmas and this is one of my games i asked Santa.
I mean this game looks amazing and i mean like how many other xbox 360 games can you name with no violence, foul language, blood and gore and gristly monster. You cant. This game looks like more fun than swimming in a pool full of 10ers. Waterslides, pool hoppings, jet skis and friendships.
Waterslide level i am deeply looking foward to though!

4 out of 5 stars Oh come on, lighten up folks!   May 3, 2007

If you want to accuse me of buying this game only because it contains scantily clad, ridiculously stylised women frolicking, of being lured in by the chance to collect bikinis for said women, take photos of them, watch them cavorting... then you'd be absolutely 100% correct.

To break it down for you, sports games really aren't my bag. In fact generally, I would call them dull. Normally I gravitate toward first and third person action titles and survival horror. I am currently making my may through F.E.A.R. and to be frank the bleakness, the onminous, brooding environments gave me the urge for a little change of pace. Something all-together more cuddly! And there you have it - D.O.A. Xtreme 2.

Criticism of this game has been frankly massive. 50% because of its titillating nature, 50% because of gameplay flaws and the fact that is regarded to be in many ways inferior to its predecessor.

Personally I haven't played the first D.O.A. Xtreme game so I can't judge how the volleyball sections have suffered with this sequel but as voyeuristic, girlie, sports non-games go I simply can't see whats so bad about this.

Admittedly the camera angle is a little difficult on the volleyball levels and the casino games can seem just a tiny bit stacked against you, but that really is the worst of it. The jet-ski levels are fun with a reasonable learning curve and the ability to chuck stunts in here and there give the whole thing a little more longevity than its being credited with. The camera mode too comes across like part of the game in itself as the controls are deliberately difficult in order to prevent you from, say, zooming in directly on the booty!! The minigames like pool-hopping and the guiltily pleasing `butt battles' are pleasantly diverting and neither suffer from the mammoth loading times or frustration levels that some reviewers seem to be accusing them of.

In short, is this game a work of genius that deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as Gears of War, Dead Rising and Resident Evil 4? No of course it isn't.

It does however do exactly what it says on the tin: Fun, aimless, fantasy in a beautiful playground. If you don't like it, don't buy it. But please don't try and preach morals.

3 out of 5 stars Great Graphics, But Sees Lots Of Shelf-time.   February 12, 2007

The fake girls are looking as beautiful as ever in this game and yes the extras are a nice addition. The best new game is by far the marine race. The rest, such as pool hopping, butt battles and flag races are not so much of addition rather than things added in for the hell of it, and to test the physics, ahem.
As for the gameplay, its no longer relaxing to play this game, it demands far too much time from the player to achieve its goals of making friends with everyone on the beach island, and the volleyball has become a bit more flukey than i wouldve liked, i find myself thinking what the **** (hell) in the middle of games, in fustration. As far as collecting swimsuits goes its the same story, plus around 400(G) points i think per character to unlock their suits on marketplace - an extra 30 quid for everything is the games designers thinking too highly of themselves. As im a student now, and like most guys, i dislike being kicked in the wallet region.
On the student point, there are other people living on my floor and yes, this game doesnt have two player of any sort apart from live (useless cos of uni firewall anyway). The only funny times you'll have with this game around your mates is laughing at throwing the ladies off the edge in the water slide.
Its still an alright game but more of an addition to my shelf, and im glad ive tried it, just not for its asking price. The First is better.
TidBits:
(o) Camera control is aweful, id rather watch the superbowl again than learn to master it.
(o) Casino Is Better.
(o) Characters more moody.
(o) Have not finished the waterslide yet, keep on falling off.
(o) English voice dubbing is dire, As in DIRE. I cant even understand what Tina is saying.
(o) Bouncey physics are over exaggerated, too bad they're only put to one use.
(o) Thers No MRS CHIEF.

Summary:
Enough for any DOA fans faith to wane..just a little, over content.
6/10

P.S. I read somewhere that Itagaki (lead design - Team Ninja) will go wherever the most powerful console is, so dont get your hopes up for xbox exclusivity anymore :<

1 out of 5 stars I would worry about anyone who plays this...   February 12, 2007

In fact, I would want to know where they live so I can warn other parents in my neighbourhood. This is a game in which the sole purpose is to ogle young girls who have the bodies of teenagers, but the faces of much much younger girls. There's something horribly creepy and uncomfortable about the whole thing. Do a just little research into the game's creator, Tomonobu Itagaki, and suddenly you start to see this game in a very different light.

Another point that confuses me is that, in the USA, this game is rated 17+, whereas in the UK it's only a 12+. To be honest, I don't think it's suitable for anyone of any age, as it encourages voyeurism and something rather nastier that I daren't mention here.

I would ask anyone considering purchasing this game to have a good think about the content before making a decision.
