5 out of 5 stars Brilliant   January 30, 2008

I`m a life long fan of these games and this is the icing on the cake for me. The concept of changing everyone into different factions was a good idea and the 3 man team is brilliant cause if you got someone like Keiji Maeda whose attacks arent particulary fast and youve go Hideyoshi in your team just fill up your musou bar, press the right bumper and boom. I`d like to see a sequel to this like Warriors Orochi: Empires. Also where is the create an officer mode???? Otherwise simply smashing.

5 out of 5 stars Great Game   October 27, 2007

Other reviews have mentioned the basics and compared it to the other Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors games, so I won't. All I'll say is if you've played the others in the series you will definitely enjoy this. Although missing the tactical options of moving your other commanders about is missing the new chance to change mid battle between different characters really helps to negate this.
I love co-op games and this is great to play with a mate against massed hoards of attacking enemies. Buy it, Play it, keep it.

5 out of 5 stars requiem for the warriors   October 12, 2007

i've heard talk on forums of this being the last in the current dynasty/samurai warriors series before they get a next gen overhaul (dw 6 looking very tasty indeed). as a result, this game is a fine ending to the series, allowing for the usual chi bi, chang ban, wu zhao plains battles to be turned on their heads with a complete mix up of the characters from both series.

no longer are the divisions so straight forward, instead start the campaigns with shu rebelling against the demon orochi, wu fighting an uneasy alliance with their new overlord, and wei biding time before they make a move against him also. the possiblity of making 3 character strong dream teams is a selling prospect, making the game more rewarding by far than the usual play-once-and-abandon fighting games *cough* conan *cough*.

you could therefore potentially replay the game any number of times, using altering strategies to win, such as try killing only officers using a speedy ninja team, or smash the place apart with a heavy weight team. the enemies are balanced as such that you can only beat certain officers such as mitsuhide and cao ren with a combination of heavy attacks (to break his guard) and speedy techniques.

i am therefore hugely satisfied that the warriors series has found its feet at last, what with me getting slightly bored by dw 5, but then finding new hope in the sw2 fight system and improved map layout. although this is one of those last in the series "what if?" titles, the execution is brilliant, if not perfect.

When I first found out that this game was coming out I rushed to pre-order it... why? 'cus I'm a die hard fan of Koei's Warrior games.

This game was actually supposed to be the last of the the warrior series for the PS2 but Koei has announced that Samurai Warriors Xtreame Legends 2 will also be appearing on that platform.

The story goes as this:

Some evil demon called Orochi decides to somehow ruin the fabric of time of space, so that the characters from the Sengoku jidai (Samurai Warriors) and the Characters from The Romance of the Three Kingdoms. (Dynasty Warriors) get mixed up in this great crossover game.

Cao Pi takes control of Wei after the disappearance of Cao Cao and joins up with Orochi's demon legions by his request... (if I remember correctly. Not all Wei officers are happy with that and leave Wei to oppose Orochi. But Cao Pi, Zhang Liang and Xu Huang stay and assist Orochi, watched closely By Ishida Mitsunari.
Sun Ce has taken control of Wu because of the disappearance of Sun Jian and has allied him self with Tokugawa Ieyasu and his faithful ninja Hattori Hanzo, and together they oppose Orochi both to fix time and space and get back Sun Jian.

hao Yun has been captured by the enemy demons and regrets greatly to not being able to protect Liu Bei who has also been captured. But then come some of his friends and Shimazu Yoshihiro who give him some useful information (I hear). Oh and did I mention that he was being held in Ueda castle? Cool huh?

Oda Nobunaga, Takeda Shingen and Uesugi Kenshin are barely holding up against Orochi's forces and thus decide to ally with each other, at first Shingen and Kenshin don't want this, because of their never ending rivalry. But as guessed they decide to join each other to oppose Orochi, they probably have some of the Dynasty Warriors characters with then, I think Guan Ping was there with them, forming the ultimate Sengoku team.

And that is the story ^.^ Mostly gotten of Wiki tho.

And of course I can not forget the new gameplay.

It's possible to create a party of three different officers. So that when one is almost dyeing the other can jump into the battlefield while the other heals etcetera (yeah, I know big words!)

Three power types: Red that equals power! Blue = speed! And yellow is technique all characters are based on this system.

Everyone apparently has a special personal item that can be acquired by completing character objectives.

And if a character has at least 2 weapons (Musashi, Nene etc.), then you can fuse them into a more powerful weapon with mixed stats! I can't wait for doing that with Musashi!!

There are all together 79 playable characters with Orochi and his henchman Da Ji.
29 characters from Samurai Warriors with the 3 left out from Samurai Warriors 2 and 48 characters from Dynasty Warriors. Oh and apparently Da Ji fights with orbs, that's almost as stupid as Zuo Ci with his cards! Oh, yes there is also some other new guy called Zhou of Shang and he is semmingly a villainous king, yes that's right.

But you shouldn't really listen to me, I'm a die hard fan I like all of the Warrior games before they even come out. I'm giving the game five stars in fun and overall because it sounds bloody awesome, and looks by the way.
I am in the end just describing how it works.
