Amazon.co.uk Review
This limited edition Xbox bundle includes Halo and Midtown Madness 3.

Take the power and flexibility of a dedicated computer-gaming system and combine it with the easy-to-use, instant-on format of a high-end console system and what do you get? Well, if you add DVD-playback ability and broadband Internet connectivity, you get Xbox.

The advanced components inside Xbox make it the undisputed powerhouse among current game consoles. A 733 mHz Intel main processor and 233 mHz graphics processor from industry leader nVidia deliver photorealistic graphics in real time. A cavernous hard drive stores saved games and characters, making flimsy memory sticks obsolete. The built-in Ethernet port enables super-fast multi-player online gaming over a broadband Internet connection. Four game-controller ports allow you and three of your buddies to play at the same time or you can use them for other peripherals such as gamepads, light guns, voice-activated headsets and who knows what else?

But Xbox has more going for it than fancy innards. The Xbox's Windows-based operating system is a breeze to program on, earning it grateful accolades from Electronic Arts, Infogrames, THQ and other game producers. The less time developers spend struggling with the operating system the more time they spend tweaking gameplay, which ultimately results in better games--and games are what it's all about. --Mike Fehlauer, Amazon.com

4 out of 5 stars Temperamental to say the least!   June 2, 2004
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

I've got two XBoxes and it is the cutting edge of consoles. Midtown Madness isn't the deepest racer, and HALO is arguably the best fps of all time. The controller you get nowadays is much better than the first one I got. But the XBox has a way with being temperamental. I don't know what everyone else does, but my XBox is fairly close to the TV. They're breathing some, I said some of the same air and my XBox will just up and decide to not play a game for me. I'll have to reboot, remove the game and make sure there are STILL no scratches and pur it back in. Maybe I'm just imagining things, but since I'm not rich and I normally get pretty obsessive about one game for a while, my XBox will tell me when it's had enough of that game. So I put a different game in and it fires right up no problem. Weird, huh? So that's why I say XBoxes are temperamental. Also, BOTH of my XBoxes do and have done that. Quirky!

5 out of 5 stars BEST CONSOLE until xbox 2   May 1, 2004

I own both XBOX and PS2 and I think Xbox is better. PS2 wastes my time because its gone in to the world of disk read heaven. Xbox never has this problem unless your disk is dirty, and GTA double pack froze on me but only for the first 3 days of owning it. PS2 may have a wide selection of games but over half of them are rubbish. Xbox has less of the crap games. The graphics are better than the PS2, multiplayer is better, thanks to xbox live. There is a hard drive for xbox so you can borrow music of your friends and store it on to your hard drive as well as game saves(you can use a memory card to take data onto someone's xbox). The PS2 doesn't need a dvd controller but xbox does(people will often already have a dvd player anyway).

I'm sick of people saying that xbox is bad because graphics are great and gameplay is more important. XBOX is the ultimate gaming system for action games, Ninja gaidan is one of the best action games available and it's only on xbox and oxm(official xbox magazine UK)gave it 9.2. It's one of the highest ratings along with SPLINTER CELL 2, HALO, MAX PAYE 2, PROJECT GOTHAM 2 and BLINX the time sweeper and more. Ninja G.... is so good that OXM said cast your mind back to when you kicked someone through a stained glassed window in DEAD OR ALIVE 2 and remember how thrilling it was, times it by a million times and Ninja.....delivers on thrills . Buy the xbox for that game.

Check out these very good games that are coming out in the future on xbox, ADVENT RISING(action), Kill switch(shooting), manhunt(horror action), Driv3r(formally named driver 3 and it's like GTA), Full spectrum warrior(only on xbox, action), Spider man 2, Burnout 3, Richard burn's rally, Fable(only on Xbox)(RPG), Ghost recon 2(3rd person action), Halo 2, Pro evolution soccer, Break down(only on xbox, innovative 1st person shooter), Doom 3(only on xbox and PC), Dead or alive 4, Delter force black hawk down, Def jam vendetta 2(wrestling), Goldenye 2, Freedom fighters 2, Half life 2(only on xbox and PC), Jade empire(RPG), Otogi 2, Prince of Percia 2, Quake 4, PSI ops, Starwars Kotor 2(RPG), True crime 2, Top spin 2, The Matrix, Time splitters 3, Silent Hill 4 and Star craft ghost. BUY THE XBOX FOR THOSE GAMES and I didn't list all the games that are only on xbox.

Don't believe anyone that says xbox is trash because play Tony Hawks under ground on Ps2 and the gameplay is sluggish and so are the graphics compared to the xbox. Splinter cell 1 first came to Xbox with great graphics and gameplay and 5 months or so later it came out on PS2, people saying graphics improved, wrong. All the developers did was add a few colours on PS2 and xbox still had the best lightining effects or shadows and so on. When ever there's a game that goes multy format, it'll usually be best on xbox and Soul calibre 2 is a prime example.

5 out of 5 stars You gotta love it!   April 10, 2004

A great package - the amazing power of Xbox, the much better and easier to handle S-controller (the original ones were far too big for those used to a PS2), and THE reason to own the console in the first place - Halo! Midtown Madness 3 is a poor game, but don't let that stop you - this package represents terrific value for money!

You can improve upon the connectivity supplied, but this is still a surefire five stars.

5 out of 5 stars xbox is the greatest   March 16, 2004

If you want a console, any console, i advise you to get an xbox. There are many reasons for this , but: 1 It has its own hard drive, no more memory cards, but if you want to transport your game data, you can still buy them. 2 It is amazingly fast, and you can play music and dvd on it. 3 It can act as an mp3 player through your tv, you put a cd into it, click on copy and htere infront of you, your music ready to play.
The graphixs are amazing and the game play stunning, it is th ebest on the market.
Don't say that i have never owned any other console and so i am as biased as you get, bewcause i have, i've owned an N64, a Gamecube, a PS2, a Game boy, A GBA, and an xbox, and the clear winner by far is the xbox.

Until Oct 2003 i thought the xbox would be rubbish, but then something happend. I played project gotham on my cousins and i liked it, infact i liked it more than my PS2. This pack has 2 of the best ever games (u need 2 replace the slip cases to protect them)and the small controller, which in my opinion is not as good but would suit gamers with smaller hands.Dont count on setting up xbox live in minutes it takes hours when connecting it through your pc! I got it this monday and all i can say is BUY ONE, or you will regret it for the rest of your life! Now repeat that back to me to make sure you understand
