Amazon.co.uk Review

It seems impossible to imagine that there's anyone in the world (who isn't employed by Microsoft) that could possibility try and talk about this game without instantly referring to the PlayStation 2's Buzz! series. In fact if the Scene It? name hadn't been licensed from the popular range of board games Microsoft probably would've been on the receiving end of a few stern letters from Sony's lawyers. As it is the game's main gimmick, that it comes with four special game show buzzer controllers, is identical to Buzz! They even look exactly the same, although Microsoft has got the extremely shaky defence that the Buzz! games have never been released in America.

If you've not played the original board and DVD game version of the concept the basic idea is that you are presented with a series of themed and general knowledge movie trivia questions, many linked to a series of clips from the respective movies. The game comes with over 1,800 questions and more than 20 styles of puzzle. These include trying to complete a famous movie quote, guessing a movie title from a partial list of credits and working out a movie's name based on a child's drawing.

Using the buzzers insure that no one can get intimidated by the regular Xbox 360 joypad, with the giant buzzer at the top used to cut in when you think you've got the answer and the four smaller buttons used for answering multiple choice questions. It's not a new idea then, but still a very entertaining one.

I was sceptical at first but the questions are varied and there are films for all ages. Great fun with four people.

5 out of 5 stars Hours of family fun   February 3, 2008

Scene It! Lights Camera Action is one of the best family games on the 360, second only to Viva Pinata. However, unlike Viva, Scene It is multiplayer, and therefore can provide hours of entertainment for everyone. The game menus & intros are certainly more serious than those on Buzz, but the whole package makes it a buzz beater...a wide range of quiz rounds, movie questions ranging from the 1930's to the present day, and the concept of bonus points at the end of each round for achieving various targets (even if you don't do that well, you can still increase your score this way). Obviously this game is being marketed for multi-player gaming, but even the single player mode is full & has the same atmosphere as the multi-player. The final cut works well, giving each player score multipliers that increase for each question they answer correctly. The infra-red controllers feel good in the hand, even if the guide button is a little too easy to press in the heat of the game.

All in all, this is the perfect start for the franchise, and if they can produce a few more versions (as they did with the original board games), then it will soon become the party game of choice. Already it is a Buzz beater.

3 out of 5 stars Scene it - Great value product, however!   January 7, 2008

Brought this for Christmas for us all to play. In the main a good game.

The positives were for me were the value of it. The game controllers are well made and the only down side is you have to plug a infra red receiver into the usb port on the 360 for you to connect the controllers. I would have liked to have seen them connect directly to the 360 however I am sure this was done to keep the costs down. Also the variety of film questions is good. If your are a film buff you will rack up some hefty gamerscore and acheivements also!

However after playing this game for a few times this is why I have marked this game down. Firstly the game "host", it would have been better for him to have been given more to say he was repeating the same quips on our first game! Also as a family game if you have someone who is a bit of a film buff then it soon becomes very one sided there is not enough balancing done on some of the games to help even the score out a little. This will in the end turn off the new people Microsoft want to be playing the 360. Also on our fourth game we had some repeated questions even hough the 360 recalls what questions it had already asked. It does state on the box 1800 question however from plying the game I can see now that now this is not a lot. Hopefully they could add some add on questions through Xbox Live. It could have done with a element of luck like the board game has to balance the game out a bit. The film clips were also a little disappointing, some of the newer films they dont look as though they were in HD. This may be a space issue on the DVD discs the 360 uses though but nonetheless would have expected more from an HD console.

If you have four adults around who have a decent knowledge of films then it will make for a good game as long as it is the first time any of them have played this 360 version. As a family game even if the kids are mid teens and you have a Dad or Mom who likes films then it may become one sided very quickly and turn the others off playing as I have discovered.

5 out of 5 stars At last, the perfect family quiz game for the 360!!!!   December 30, 2007

It is a releif to actually find a 360game that is not involved with fighting, sport or racing!!! There are definitley a few platform games worth having, but this is a real breath of fresh air!

Having played BUZZ on the Playstation, we have been looking for a game that we can all join in with and have loads of fun! We are not disappointed.

The game is very easy to connect. You literally "plug and play", the onscreen instructions are very easy to follow and you are away!!
I hope that Microsoft take advantage of this game and do the same thing as Sony and introduce many variations.

This is a real winner for Microsoft.
