Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Call of Duty is the reference in terms of FPS (first-person shooter) on WWII. This third episode includes new close-up combat features: you can fight hand-to-hand, neutralise traps, assemble explosives, etc. The physical environment motor is impressive and even lets you destroy parts of the scenery such as enemy soldiers&rsquo hiding places (wooden palisades, barrels and boxes). The levels are designed in a way to give you the choice of how to want to attack the enemy. Depending on your decisions, you must choose the appropriate tactics. The game play is varied and lets you participate in parachute drops, armoured assaults, and commando operations. Several multi-player modes have been designed for this episode. Several players can confront each other (riflemen, infantrymen, scouts, etc.) and drive several different vehicles (tanks, jeeps, and side-car motorcycles).

Amazon.co.uk Review

In a nutshell:
After the last game became the best selling launch title for the Xbox 360, Activision aren’t wasting any time with the follow-up as you do you bit to help out with the Normandy breakout and the liberation of France.

The lowdown:
Despite the new digit in the title this isn’t so much a sequel to Call of Duty 2 on the 360 and PC as it is Call of Duty: Big Red One on the PS2, Xbox and GameCube. It’s by the same developer (Treyarch), there’s no PC version and it doesn’t feature three distinct armies, but instead a recreation of the Normandy breakout. That’s not to suggest it’s short on new ideas though with much larger levels than ever before and far more vehicles to control (particularly in the Battlefield like multiplayer mode). There’s also a new Resident Evil 4 style quick time event system for hand-to-hand combat where you have to hit specific buttons to sock it to the Nazi hordes.

Most exciting moment:
It may seem a bit shallow to go on about the game’s explosions but really, there’s never been anything as realistic as the fireworks in this game. The way the smoke moves is particularly amazing, even drifting in the wind or dispersing after a second nearby explosion.

Since you ask:
Although Activision has confirmed nothing yet they have hinted that original Call of Duty developers Infinity Ward are working on their own sequel, primarily for the PC. When it will come out and whether it will be translated to the next generation consoles is currently unknown.

The bottom line:
The best WII first person shooter looks to be getting even better.

5 out of 5 stars Great Game.. BUY IT!!!   March 30, 2008

I own COD4 and really enjoyed it so i decided to buy this game after enjoying COD4 so much and WOOOOWWWWW!, this game is excellent...

I thaught it got abit boring in places as it does get quite repetitive and can give you a headache after awhile but this is a war game with an excellent story mode with different battle tactics as the game involves.

It has a better story mode than COD4 and uses "SIXAXIS Motion Sensitive" feature of the ps3 controller where you need to move the controller in certain directions to fight off an enemy soldier that has just grabbed you in a movie sequence this makes the game very realistic on my 40" HD TV.

You also plant bombs on enemy cannon's and have to turn the controller clock wise to attach bombs to guns, enemy cannons and tanks.

This is an excellent game you work as part of a team in this WWII drama using rocket launchers, sniper rifiles and shot guns you can also throw grenades at the enemy and you also need to watch out for grenades being thrown at you.

Some levels you travel by foot, some by tank and also some levels by motor car with your team mates some times you are on the back of the motor car shooting at your enemy, some levels you are driving to your destination and your team mates are shooting.

In online mode you are part of one online team fighting another online team doing battle on foot and using vehicles and you can run in and out of houses which can be fun but can get boring after a bit of playing.

But apart from online mode the single player mode is great sadly this game is only a one player which i feel is abit strange for a game of this good quality and as the ps3 has 4 usb controller ports would of made this game better if you could actually play with 3 other friends in story mode and also in mutiplayer.

The games graphics are superb and the resolution for viewing this game on an HD TV is 720p which looks excellent on my 40" Sony Bravia.

My PSN ID is: crowscs

add me if you have any of the games i have reviewed on Amazon.

5 out of 5 stars The best First Person Shooter   January 13, 2008

I got Call of Duty 4 (PS3)for my birthday from my kids and this was my first of this kind of game, so I hired out Call of Duty 3 to try before i buy ,went straight out and bought it next day .This COD 3 PS3 is far better than the new COD4, its longer and harder I started on level 2 and its harder than level 3 of COD 4 ,Getting shot is easy so you have to watch not to and keep under cover i love the sniper rifles and smoke grinades far better than frag grinades
I would recommend this version COD 3 (PS3)not the PS2 version more than the new Call of Duty 4 (PS3)
Kill Kill those Nazis one shot one kill

3 out of 5 stars Is the game too short or was I too good?   October 29, 2007

I really enjoyed this game whilst I played it the first time through, which did not take that long, and was very dissapointed when it ended so soon!
I just hope COD 4 is a longer game!

4 out of 5 stars Good Single player.. naff multiplayer   August 3, 2007

I love the call of duty series and this was the first game I played on the PS3.... all the old atmospheric touches and historical elements makes this a great game to play.

Multiplayer is a bit of a let down.... very ahrd to get to grips with...especially managing to shoot an enemy without using hundreds of bullets.

Good game all round just a little frustrating on line game play.

4 out of 5 stars A Great WWII FPS   July 16, 2007

This is the first game i bought for my new PS3. As a long time fan of WWII shooters, which started off with the original Medal of Honor game on the PS1, i was really looking forward to playing the genre on the PS3 for the first time. What can i say...I was not disappointed. The single player game is extremely good and the gun sound, AI and tactics are all much improved. I have to say that I was blown away by the graphics on some of the levels; the lighting, particle and texture was simply amazing!
The missions are your typical COD missions but with more realism. There are also some fun driving levels where you can opt to use the SIXAXIS controller motion sensors ability. You are also required to use the motion sensor function for hand to hand combat with german soldiers and for setting fuses on demolition charges at various points throughout the game. It's more of a novel inclusion than anything that fun.
What really does it for this game is the fantastic online multiplayer. Since i finished the single player game, i have spent many hours playing online. The best multiplayer mode is WAR. In this mode you must battle with your team to take over all the stategic points (flags) on the map. Don't worry though, the standard death-match and team death-match are also included.
The only bad thing i can say about this game is that your squad members still sometimes block your way in door ways. You'd think this problem should have been put to bed ny now.
Overall though, this is a great, fun FPS. If your a long time fan of WWII FPS or a new one, i definately recommend this game.
