I'm Scared! February 17, 2007 Ran Tan (London) This game is bizarre. It's basically a first person 2D shooter that's very, very dark. Think XIII meets Kubrich/Lynch/Depalmer in Japan where the 2D graphics aren't an ironic device. It's not bad exactly, but it's a bit like marmite, you either love it or hate it. I am in the latter camp. The plot and premise are good, but just poorly executed. You spend most of your time either shooting at static (and rather odd) enemies or being asked what direction you want to go next. This game has style in abundance, but this style sometimes comes off as lazy programming. After I'd played this for a few hours I started thinking "shouldn't games (particularly major releases) be better than this by now?" and looking for a good therapist. If you want to be scared and confused, buy this.
Defies description October 26, 2006 Mr (Glasgow, United Kingdom) If there was a genre of games called "rubbish waste of time shooter" then this would define the genre along with Twin Calibre. The second you read reviews be it about games or DVDs that includes the statement 'some people won't get it' you know you've stumbled upon something pointless. This game is indeed pointless, the aim is never completely obvious and this detracts from any enjoyment the game may bring. There is also a Sadomasochistic theme running throughout the game. The tutorial teaches you nothing and the irritating code language the tutor speaks in only infuriates. The graphics are interesting, but even they failed to grip my attention for long. I can't say I'm that bothered about not "getting" the game, as I seriously doubt there is even meant to be a point to it and the people that say otherwise are only deluding themselves. If you want a game that is different and inventive try something like Rez or Darkwatch, but give this as wide a berth as you possibly can.

a game truly worthy of the the title of a brilliant game. September 4, 2005 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
This is a truly great game. so great that when i put in my ps2 i have to lay down a red carpet just to insert it into the disc drive. This is a game crossed with a film crossed with a book. you end up with great gameplay, great visuals and a great story. if you do not like puzzle games, don't bother. puzzle game lovers, read on. The controls in this game are so simple it's surprising they work. This game is all about a man called harman smith and a criminal from the underworld called kun lan. he leads a group of terrorists called the heaven smiles. These heaven smiles are not people. They are walking, living, breathing bombs. It is up harman and his seven different personalities to stop the heaven smiles right in their tracks. The seven personalities in the smith syndicate are kevin smith, garcian smith, who retrieves all the dead bodies, dan smith, kaede smith, mask de smith, coyote smith and con smith. i'll leave the rest of the surprises until you buy the game.
One of the best games of 2005! September 1, 2005 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
Ignore the meagre reviews this has attracted, you have never played anything this innovative or stylish in your life.As you already know, you play as Harman Smith, an assassin with 7 multiple personalities, who all have different skills and whatnot. You run around an amazing map shooting the 'Heaven Smiles' and saving the world. The main difference to most action adventures is the movement. Just press x and away you go, till you come to a junction. Then you pick one and off you go again! Sounds bizarre but is very easy to get used to. When you shoot, you do it in the 1st person, holding R1 to aim and L2 for scan for your enemies, as they can't be seen by the naked eye. A brilliant idea, as you can't see them until they start laughing. Some have complained that the in game dialouge isn't in any proper language, but so what? The strange English/Japanese hybrid is spooky (just wait till you meet Suzie), a huge plus in my book. The game has a great upgrades system too, implementing a TV set and blood collected from your enemies to upgrade your weapons, power and so on. BUY THIS GAME! You'll be doing yourself a favour, it's utter genius!
