It's never obvious what to make of delays in video games. Sometimes it's simply an indication of a problem production that ends up looking out of date before it's even released. Other times though it's simply evidence of ruthless perfection: thankfully TimeShift seems to be the latter. At first glance it seems like any other first person shoot `em-up, with some technically impressive but artistically ordinary visuals. What makes it unique though is the gameplay, with the best use of time travel in a game since Prince of Persia. The story of the game involves the unlikely named Aiden Krone go back in time and changing history to suit him - kind of like a more evil version of Back to the Future, Part II. However, the time travelling doesn't end there as the special suit you're strapped into to chase after him also allows you to stop, rewind or slow down time whenever you want. Since Krone has got his own version of the same kind of time suit many of the enemies can't even be properly seen under normal conditions because they're moving too fast, but there are more subtle uses for the rewind and stop powers. Slipping past guards or running through a burning building becomes child's play, while stopping time, running up to an enemy to grab his gun and then nipping back to cover to shoot him with it is just one of the game's unique pleasures. Even if Doctor Who wouldn't approve.

I bought this game new from one of Amazons suppliers for 4.16! Yes, insane and it turns out to be one of the all time best FPS I've ever played. It's better than HL2 and far better than Crysis, and looks just as good even though it is DirectX 9.0c. It runs on Vista 32 bit perfectly and does not have any nasty DRM or protection drivers (like Starforce). It looks amazing and is a fantastic shooter with really great weapons. Also despite having an auto-save feature, you can can save at any time, so avoids all that having to redo sections again and again.
It's so good I've just removed COD4 from my computer and put it up for sale on Amazon. At this crazy price is really the bargain of the year. Fantastic.

Well I'm quite pleased with this game, so I thought I'd just add a couple of comments to the reviews. I like it, and having just suffered the cut-scenes in Assassin's Creed, (mad scientist and assistant) our Timeshift cut scenes are quite short, and the assistant is really quite attractive.
My only niggles: (listen up Sierra) the quad bikes are really difficult to control, and consequently only useful for jumping gaps, I'd rather walk, can't I use the mouse to steer?
There seems to be only one way through the game, and those markers that practically take you from door to door could go.
Endless dying and reloading in the Krone battle is BORING. Something where you need to use your head and time please! Being blown up on re-spawn may be realistic, but who needs it.
Warnings about impending dangers are useful (coming from your suits AI), but figuring stuff out would be more fun, as would more 'time control' puzzles.
I love Halo CE, and even on easy it takes a couple of days to charge through (even after countless times), I did this game in about 15-20 hours first time; some more levels would have been good, I was really surprised -'oh, I've finished it'.
On the positive side, I can't wait to get one of the flying suits, it has some really great weapons, and although I only found four servers, the online game looks pretty good too.
All-in-all a good game, but not great.

Since I saw the trailer for Timeshift I was intrigued by this fresh new idea - controlling time in a first-person shooter.
Sure, games have done the whole controlling time thing before, but Timeshift takes it to a whole new level.
The storyline that you follow is actually pretty good, travelling to an alternate 1930s USA where a scientist working on time travel has set himself up as the leader of a totalitarian government. You help the resistance fighting to bring him down. However, the storyline on the other side of the timeline (i.e. the real world) is very vague. But hey, its a shooter.
Timeshift has some stunning graphics and sound effects - in the midst of a firefight with bullets everywhere and debris flying, you want to crank up the volume.
But where Timeshift really shines is, surprise surprise, the time controls. More than just a gimmick, the ability to control time is vital to the game. Hit the time stop button and the whole world comes to a halt - bullets stop in mid air, rain drops hang motionless, even explosions come to a halt. Its great fun freezing time and grabbing enemy weapons from their hands. Pump enemy troops full of bullets, cancel time stop and watch the bullets hit them all at once and send them flying.
But it gets better - the abilities can be used creatively in mini-puzzles to progress through certain areas. Need to get up to a ledge? Shoot the lift cable, let it fall to the ground, get in and reverse time. Voila, you're at the top. Want to use that balancing plank to walk on? Freeze time, and it stays still while you run along.
The time controls make this game great fun and sometimes you really have to think outside the box to make the most of them, but the point is they're damn good fun!

Awesome everything a FPS fan wants from a PC game. It's all there.
Easy keyboard controls, mega graphics, and shoot em dead in style.
