Absolutely fantastic! August 28, 2008 G. Nisbet (Glasgow, UK) As a bit of a FPS fan I took something of a gamble with The Godfather and what a gamble it was! I've since racked up 50 hours of gameplay to complete the entire game. Every mission, every favour, every hit. The journey was incredible. Slapping a butcher around demanding a slice of his profits was just hilarious. Throwing hookers out of windows (using Sixaxis motion sensing no less!), beating people to death with a golf club, throwing corrupt cops off rooftops. This game has everything. I couldn't stop playing it till I had taken over every business in NYC. If you have a PS3 and are looking for something different then get this - just expect a few late nights as it's hard to stop playing it. Top drawer entertainment.
One of the best PS3 games August 15, 2008 Nikko (Wirral) The Godfather is one of the best games around combining elements of first person shooters, hand to hand combat, driving (New York's quite big) and plenty of sub-plots (mainly assassinating enemies in a variety of different ways). You start off as a mere hired hand but can progress all the way up to Don of NY. A large portion of the game is dedicated to taking over various districts from rival families but you also get to play out much of the story from the film (including the horse's head in a bed bit) You are reasonably free to make your own way around the city and can follow the main story at your own pace. There are plenty of upgrades to your character, his skills and weaponry. The Don's Edition is similar to the original but with a few more missions, enemy family haunts plus you can also hire friendly thugs to assist you and drivers if you want to save time driving. It also saves & loads quicker. I've played many games on various formats over the years & have to say that this is one of the most addictive and rewarding games to date. They have obviously put a great deal of time & effort into the game & have then face-lifted it with this edition. It's one of only a few games that I've played a few times right through & it's a very large game so takes a while. The only word of caution is that it is can be quite violent in places - definitely 18 rated. If you want a game that you can't refuse, this is it.

If you love the Godfather and any other ace gangsta films you will love this game. Take down rival gangs, extort, blackmail, bomb and kill, all the things we can't get away with in the real world.

Bought this game a few weeks ago and so far i'm really enjoying it. As a fan of the GTA games, i thought this would be right up my street and i was right. It's basically GTA set in 1950's New York with a few different ways of doing things but the basic elements are still there. Beating people up is a bit more involved than GTA as you have to use the right analogue stick. You can also use the Sixaxis motion control to slam people up against walls and bash their heads on tables etc. It is pretty violent so not for the weak-hearted! On the downside, unlike GTA you have to get each individual weapon you want to buy from a different backstreet seller. These are dotted all over the city and belive me when i say New York is MASSIVE (in the game, i know its big in real life). This is a cool thing on one hand because it means the game is longer, but if you want a Tommy gun for instance you might hae to drive all the way over the other side of the city to get it which means it can get a little tedious. Also, don't expect the graphics to be great as its kind of ported from the PS2. Don't let this put you off however as the game play is still superb. If you're a big GTA fan and are waiting for GTA4 to come out then i'd get this to tide you over. Great game and loads of fun.
Respect the Don December 6, 2007 Mikus (London, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was a bit shocked at the violence at the start - first time I played it I beat someone to death during the tutorial. I suppose the Mafia aren't known for the gentle approach though. Just started playing it a few hours ago and completed a few missions. Think it will be excellent fun for a long time - until GTA V comes out that is, then I'm switching my free time over to that. Very reminicent of GTA3 - car theft isn't as 'smooth' a transaction as it was on GTA 2 3 or 4 but a different experience. I am going home to do dish out some more beatings to some punks. The sound fx are superb on this. I am marking the game down to 4 start, since I was playing Assassins Creed for a while before I bought Godfather - the graphics are no contest to Assassins Creed, but Dons Edition is still a cracking game. Show it some respect or I'll send Paulie round to dust you!
