Amazon.co.uk Review The main premise of Midnight Club Street Racing is that you and your pals take to the streets each night to race hot rods around town. Along the way, you will terrorise those pedestrians who are crazy enough to be outdoors at night and generally crash into anything that's vertical. Of course, it goes without saying that you will then spend most of daytime hours pounding out the dents from the previous night's misadventures.Midnight Club Street Racing plays like a combination of the high-res street shenanigans of the Dreamcast's Tokyo Extreme Racing and the mission-based mayhem of the PS One's Driver. You've got two fantastic urban vistas to roam around--New York and London--and a jacked-up little runabout in which to do it. The game isn't just about racing, it's about racing from point to point or playing follow the leader. Graphically appealing (if more than a little flat, but that doesn't detract) and speedy, this may not tax the PlayStation2 hardware, but it may tax your skills as a gamer if you don't keep up. Maps to the city are available whenever you need them, so it's pretty difficult to get lost. It's advisable to try, however, as there are tons of mini-routes to traverse. No route is sacrosanct, since you can bash through plate glass windows, barrel through underground parking structures, meander across parks and even pogo from roof to roof. In this way, the game has a bit of that good 'ole Driver feel, though the night skies and sombre tone of the city dispel some of this the further in you play. Midnight Club Street Racing is a great game and yet another reason for new PlayStation2 owners to smile. While not terribly groundbreaking, this is one game that's loads of fun to play. --Todd Mowatt

rubbish October 27, 2003 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
i spent forty pounds on this game and thats a lot for a northerner. I expected to get my money's worth. But this game was a massively huge disappointment. It's so unrealistic. Okay you can win some cool cars but what is with the cars getting fully damaged and then 3 secs later they are fine again? stupid. oh and going at bowt 150 miles an hour and crashing into a bus isnt gonna make the same amount of damage as going at 5 miles an hour. DON'T BUY THIS GAME
Midnight Club: Ultimate boy racer game April 29, 2003 lewis maker (cornwall, england) 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
I bought this game when I heard it being talked about. It immediatly grabbed my attention as I am a boy racer. The story line is o.k but what do you expect it is a driving game.As for the gameplay It will last you for ages. There are loads of races to complete and some are quite difficult. The audio on this game is amazing the sounds of your engine at 150mph and then hitting a wall!!.The graphics are quite good but not what I was expecting from a ps2.But the surroundings are great. A brilliant game buy it now.
quite disappointing August 28, 2002 Gary Clark (Irvine, Scotland, UK) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
For me, this game is just too samey - in the Career mode, you cruise around trying to catch up with opponents then you race them round a set course, if you win you can call them up and arrange a mano-a-mano race - quite fun the first time, but by the fourth and fifth you start wondering why you're even bothering!!!The Catch the Flag game is a bit more enjoyable - the aim is to collect a flag before your opponents do, if you're too late you'll need to ram into the opponent with the flag to steal it from them and then speed off to the drop-off point - but again, it's just too samey. If you want a great arcade racer, then go for the breathtaking Burnout. It sure knocks this one for six!!

Not bad, but not very accurate June 28, 2001 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this game on the premise of what it said on the back of the box "Furious action in accurate models of New York and London". It might be fair to say that the action can be fast at times. But the cities are not accurate, at best, they are about 20% accurate, and as this was the main reason I bought the game, it's fair to say that I was disappointed. Look beyond this failing though and what you have is a game that has OK playability coupled with a slightly interesting premise of illegal street racing.
