Not As Good As The PC Version! August 25, 2008 Mrs. Dawnc Alexandre (Jersey (CI)) Return To Castle Wolfenstein is the sequel towards Wolfenstein 3D released way back in the 1990's! When Return To Castle Wolfenstein was released on the PC it became a smash hit and one of the most all time favourite World War 2 games! Some sites like Gamespot even said "The single-player campaign on Return To Castle Wolfenstein is just a treat, as you can get just enough fun just playing multiplayer". Because of its success, the game was ported onto the Playstation 2 and the Microsoft XBox consoles. The XBox version has also found success because of its multiplayer mode and new features. Unfortunately, the Playstation 2 Version has been given mediocre to poor grade because of the main feature of not representing a multiplayer! Return To Castle Wolfenstein is a first person shooter game set in World War 2. You play as Agent "William Joseph" Blazkowicz whom is a top-secret spy agent and was featured on the Wolfenstein 3D game too. Unlike the original Wolfenstein 3D, only a handful of the single player missions in Return to Castle Wolfenstein take place in the infamous castles and prisons. The single player game takes place in Nazi-occupied Europe during 1943. Blazkowicz has been assigned to a top-secret mission along with a fellow companion, Agent One to Northern Egypt to investigate rumours surrounding one of Heinrich Himmler's personal projects, the SS Paranormal Division. The agents are, however, captured before completing their mission and are imprisoned in Castle Wolfenstein in Germany! Taking the role of Blazkowicz, you must escape the castle and continue investigating the activities of the SS Paranormal Division, which include research on resurrecting corpses, biotechnology, and secret weapons. During the game the player will face numerous foes, including soldiers, paratroopers, legions of undead creatures, and even robots created by the Nazi's! There's a lot packed inside this adventure for a one-man-only job! The Playstation 2 Version of the game hasn't really grabbed as much attention as what the PC Version of the game did. Obviously, the main reason is because the Playstatoin 2 Version does not feature any multiplayer mode and the game is single-player only based. Some other setbacks have been encountered in this version as well. Including the gameplay can get really slow and dull, depending on how many enemies there are and the location. The sound quality from the weapons is poor. There are not enough health packs and first aid kits in the levels you play. Controls on the game can be laggy and way out of control as your character may start moving unexpectedly and the game does not feature a Quick-Save mode, and speaking of saving, your only allowed a limit amount of save slots and once you save them, you cannot delete them! Although there are many disadvantages in the game, the Playstation 2 Version features a brand new Chapter, where you can play an extra mission based in Northern Egypt, which wasn't included in the PC Version. Some levels in the Playstation 2 Version have been divided, due to its graphic quality and performance. My Personal Game Score: 5.5/10: Mediocre, Could Be Better, Not Bad But Not Brilliant My Wish: Well really, a split screen multiplayer feature mode, online play and improvements to the disadvantages this game has! Final Comment: If you want to see this game in full action, your best bet is to get the PC Version as that version features everything you need for a great World War 2 game. Meanwhile, towards the Playstation 2, only get this if it's cheap and you want a break from the PC or you don't have a PC! Apart from that, avoid this game, if you can! Review By Captain Chris Kipper
MEDAL OF HONOUR WITH GHOULIES October 31, 2007 Nevs (uk) Really like this game. Usual hero fights the Germans during WW2 and set in the desert of North Africa, returning to Castle Wolfenstein, which i presume is in Germany. The Germans are trying to create monster soldiers to win the war for them and you find yourself fighting a myriad of ghouls, skeletons, suits of armour and bowls of ferocious fruit (just kidding). The action is constant and the story/levels keep the interest well. Well worth buying/playing.
BRILLIANT April 14, 2007 davy mac (uk) Such a good game, stands the test of time, have just played it through for the third time. Forget wasting your money on the likes of MOH Vanguard, the latest rip off from EA games, this will give you hours more fun at a fraction of the price.
Shoot Em Up March 17, 2006 M. G. Hatfield (North Wales UK) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is the best PS2 game of this type but I say that as it is easier than Medal of Honuor and less planning needed it is more based on action and the graphics are very good as many new games are. If you aren't a fan of army games this won't convert you into a fan, as it is based on an army game but doesn't bore you with the in's and out's of army life and pushes you into the action aspect. If you have played the other games which share it's name with this one you will be greatly impressed with the improvements made to it Wolf 3D was good but this version is far better due to advancment in technology and graphic design this is a great game for fans of the others before this game. Army game fans who fancy a chance and some shoot em up action instead of planning attack plans this is a game to give you a rest. There are impovrments that could be made and maybe will be made for the next game out most probably on the new PS3 but don't throw away the PS2 just yet I feel it still got some life left in it yet. Buy this game and enjoy.
Best Game I ever played on PS2 May 5, 2005 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
This was the first game that I completed on PS2 (having bought many previously) and only took me a few weeks. The game is pure action, fast moving and not that complicated so you don't get bogged down & fustrated. Would really recommned it.
